This is awesome. Doing my first PxP of FGCU Baseball tonight. Got recommendation to look up Bob Carpenter. What a coincidence my classmate at UF was doing this interview. Great job Sarah, Bob really has a great plan, couldn't have asked for more informative content ahead of my PxP broadcast tonight.

I've known Bob Carpenter for a number of years and he taught me using the different colors for different things...I use it in all sports. He does have the best baseball scorebook out there, no question!

Do you have colors coordinated with the team or just blue/red for home/away or something similar? I’m getting into it now

As a Cardinals fan, I miss hearing BC's voice. Frequently look for the Nats broadcast when we play them. I just recently started keeping score at Cards games and I love how this video showcases the artform. I will definitely be ordering one of these for next season.

Blackgold1155 I enjoyed BC’s Cardinals calls, but, my goodness ... how can you stand the Nationals broadcasts with FP? He is insufferable. Give me Danny Mac and anyone (except Rick Horton - I cannot stand him).

One of the nerdiest videos I've ever seen on KZbin. That said, I've watched it about six times. Love this stuff.

I just bought my first scorebook today. I want to start keeping scores of TV games and games I go to in the future and such. But this video showed me how much more fun it can be to be announcer. While it looks like a lot, when you get the hang of it it can actually be fun and can even make being a broadcaster easier to have the stats right at your fingertips. I’ve dreamed of being a sports broadcaster for about 3 years now and this video showed me how fun it can be. Go Nats!

Pitcher A pitches to Batter 1 who flies out to right field. Batter 2 reaches on base on balls. Batter 3 doubles, Batter 2 reaches third base. Pitcher B relieves Pitcher A. Pitcher B pitches to Batter 3 and the ball reaches the backstop. We’ll call it a passed ball to take Pitcher B out of this scenario. (If it is deemed a wild pitch the impact on earned runs is the same). Batter 2 scores on the passed ball. Batter 3 advances to third on the passed ball. Batter 4 grounds to the pitcher and is thrown out at first, but Batter 2 scores on a fielder’s choice. Batter 5 grounds out to short and the inning is ended. What runs are earned in the above scenario, if any? (Rule 9.16 in the rule book, Earned Runs and Runs Allowed)

Go to www.bcscorebook.com. I've been an official scorer for the Pacific Coast League for 21 years, with the last 19 on Bob's book. For the first few years, I designed my own sheet but soon discovered from our radio guy that Bob made one very similar to mine. Ultimately, it was cheaper and easier to just buy Bob's. He has a "Radio" version for 200 games, a "TV" version for 100 games, and a "Fan" version that also has 100 games but comes in a smaller size and has a few amenities removed. The thick Radio edition costs $45. Think what it would costs for 200 double-sided copies at a nearby FedEx Kinko's store, then add the cost of a laminated cover and durable spiral binding. It was an easy decision to let Bob do all the work. 😛 I score about 40-50 games a year, so the Radio book lasts me for a few years. I've kept them all, too. Kind of cool going back through the games I scored to see who ended up turning into a MLB star years later. They were relative no-names at the time I worked their games.
