I remember there is a part with the Learned English Dog saying the "L.E.D blinks", and having a good chuckle at that. Also the daughters chasing Mason around is hilarious. I think of this book often, as all Pynchon novels, though I haven't read Against the Day. Have a copy, just never got around to it.

One thing I think you did not mention is that Pynchon himself is a Taurus! Ruled by Venus

Great book, even after three years I can't but help think that he really got what America is like today. What's bred in the bone, as they say. Mason and Dixon is much more esoterik (sic, as in Satie).I'm came across this video as I am preparing to read M&D again. I'm a bit more up on certain things but I have to bone up on metrology. There was one sentence in the book that struck me as the most beautiful thing I've ever read. Can't remember it now, hopefully it will have the same effect when I read it again. Also you might want to listen to some KZbin videos of Geordi to get Dixon's accent because it reads difficult at first. Very humorous book, sort of like Don Quixote and Poncho Sansa

I thought coyotes, in native American myths, were tricksters., I know in Egyptian that the jackel is associated grave yards. What does the dog with babalu aye mean in Lucumi? So they observed the transit in two places, Dixon in Capetown and Mason on St, Helena Right? I've been planning on going back and reading this again. I really wasn't prepared the first time at all but it was fun. I loved the werebeaver chapter

Yes, Coyote is definitely a trickster, as dog characters often are in mythology, but the dog itself always has a lunar and / or underworld valency.

Shouldn’t be thought of as a singular phenomenon. I prefer ‘Hellenistic mystery religions.’ Jmc
