although currently in the PHILIPPINES...when i used to live in NEW YORK city...i was privileged to play on many MASON and HAMLINS in recitals...sometimes LISZT Sonata...Schumann's Phantasie...Goldberg variations...Scriabin sonatas...etc... and *if* retains today The same unique MECHANISM...INCLUDING the key lengths (they tend to be longer and "bigger" to the feel) as i recall..and of course the particular "Directness of response"..that s MY personal favorite of ALL pianos i ever played on...BEATS steinwey...bechstein , bosendorfer...yamaha...baldwin...and that BIG WARM sound..long vibrating and full ..truly ORCHESTRAL and singing..brilliant and very powerful..but never hard ...the mechanism gives that INSTANTANEOUS response to whatever one does ..how i wash i could have afforded my own grand piano Mason and Hamlin...but i wish more such pianos were heard in the BIGGEST halls for the richest music to the most refined....MASON and HAMLIN is the piano that makes a pianist feel ..they are ONE body...it really does...my god!!..it didn t matter when i played Rachmaninoff preludes...or Scriabin sonatas...Beethoven chamber music...Wagner/Liszt..mozart sonatas..JS BACH goldberg variations or fugues...schoenberg...prokovief. ravel or devussy..playing wth singers...or violin or flutes...or solos....the SOUND always came like the MASON and HAMLIN is an OLD FRIEND...MY DREAM grand piano!!...it s a piano where the pianist -- difficult anD challenging as the pieces already are...MAKES the work all that much more REWARDING to make it all sound on a PIANO as BEAUTIFUL and RICH as a MASON & HAMLIN!! please never change away from the highest ARTISTIC standards of creating such a piano!!
