As much as I enjoyed owning a Steinway a few years ago, what I truly want is a Mason & Hamlin. It’s clearly a superior instrument.

As a piano player I typically don’t like Steinway actions. Very stiff. There are always exceptions but their typical builds & tone don’t particularly impress me much. M&H plays/responds more closer to a Bosendorfer or Steingraeber to me. And their sound is immaculately robust and perfectly balanced. That’s my 2 cents fwiw haha 😅

Would love to hear Billy's take on the larger pianos in your range and how they compare to the :cough cough: Steinways he's used to playing.

I LOVE my 2003 Model A. It is just so beautiful. What is red piano made of?
@MrWhiteKeys13 ай бұрын
I love this piano! ❤ The Wessel, Nickel and Gross action stands apart from pianos like Steinway. They offer a set of upgraded hammers that just sound amazing. There is also a steel mechanism under the piano that keeps the rim from warping and preserves the soundboard tension so it will sound like a new piano decades or even centuries later. I just bought a lottery ticket, so if I win, I will get this piano. Wish me luck!

although currently in the PHILIPPINES...when i used to live in NEW YORK city...i was privileged to play on many MASON and HAMLINS in recitals...sometimes LISZT Sonata...Schumann's Phantasie...Goldberg variations...Scriabin sonatas...etc... and *if* retains today The same unique MECHANISM...INCLUDING the key lengths (they tend to be longer and "bigger" to the feel) as i recall..and of course the particular "Directness of response"..that s MY personal favorite of ALL pianos i ever played on...BEATS steinwey...bechstein , bosendorfer...yamaha...baldwin...and that BIG WARM sound..long vibrating and full ..truly ORCHESTRAL and singing..brilliant and very powerful..but never hard ...the mechanism gives that INSTANTANEOUS response to whatever one does ..how i wash i could have afforded my own grand piano Mason and Hamlin...but i wish more such pianos were heard in the BIGGEST halls for the richest music to the most refined....MASON and HAMLIN is the piano that makes a pianist feel ..they are ONE body...it really does...my god!!..it didn t matter when i played Rachmaninoff preludes...or Scriabin sonatas...Beethoven chamber music...Wagner/Liszt..mozart sonatas..JS BACH goldberg variations or fugues...schoenberg...prokovief. ravel or devussy..playing wth singers...or violin or flutes...or solos....the SOUND always came like the MASON and HAMLIN is an OLD FRIEND...MY DREAM grand piano!!...it s a piano where the pianist -- difficult anD challenging as the pieces already are...MAKES the work all that much more REWARDING to make it all sound on a PIANO as BEAUTIFUL and RICH as a MASON & HAMLIN!! please never change away from the highest ARTISTIC standards of creating such a piano!!

Mason and Hamlin's patent is the Screw stringer system. Why don't they make today's pianos with this tuning system? Of course, I know that in the past it was too expensive, but nowdays, manufacturing with CNC machines is definitely not that expensive. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXacgJmVnqeMY6c

I remember years ago, a piano technician/rebuilder I knew, didn’t compare Mason and Hamlin to Steinway, he compared it to Bosendorfer. Let that sink in……
@hastensavoir77828 күн бұрын
Then I take offense in that, because Bösendorfer is the most overrated of all.

I'm loving these recent videos of great pianists playing your amazing instruments! I can't find enough material on KZbin of recordings on Mason & Hamlin, which I actively seek. This is a great way to showcase the magical sound of these pianos, especially the new VX line. Please keep these recordings coming! The crispness of sound and clarity of this AA is fascinating, and yet it maintains that Mason & Hamlin warmth. One of the best pianos I've ever heard in a recording.

Although I do not play the piano ( nor any instrument ) I have become so very impressed by the MH's great clarity and richness of tone. The notes have excellent individuality--they don't drown each other out, and there is great range in volume--played loudly or softly, the music doesn't degenerate in quality. God bless you, MH, for many years to come.
