Love the salad bar in jars concept. Also, eating oats in the evening is a great idea. I'm not much of a breakfast person but I do want to eat more oats. Sometimes it takes someone else to help me think outside of the box. Thank you, Michael.

Thanks, Dolores! I'm not much of a sweet breakfast person, and I normally don't want to spend the time cooking a full savory breakfast. I also want to eat more oats, because it's supposed to be good for us? So, instead of eating them in the morning and needing a nap after, I make them my dessert!

Prepared veggies is 100% my (and family's) solution to eating more salad. Love the mason jar idea. Fwiw I love a great system and I am finding that the mason jar + salad spinner storage idea is AMAZING. For a self proclaimed type a-ish kinda guy, you seem to be an easy low key cat - easy to watch and listen to - who knew that watching someone prep veggies could be so satisfying? Thanks a bunch!

Thank you so much, Deb. Doing a 30 minute video of me cutting veggies and talking about salad was a bit of a risk (haha) but I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm the same way. If I like someone, I can watch them watch paint dry. I'm just very particular and get set in my ways. I like what I like, and I sometimes obsess about. Shrugs. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to leave such a sweet comment. I appreciate it.

20:35 I am totally a type A person sometimes and jars are one of "my things" so I understand you to some degree :D I have been collecting identical, small, black-lid jars for spices for...5-6 years and when we finally moved and I could arrange the spice drawer I was the happies ever. Then, it expanded to other drawers too and my mum fam looks at me as if I was an alien. But I am fine with it, at least we have a beautifully arranged kitchen ;P

Loved this video! Thank you! I love roasted veg on my salads to wilt the greens to make chewing less arduous (lol). The other thing I love on salads are starches... a couple of cooked red potatoes or some rice to give it longer "staying" power 😋.

I grew up loving salad bars too! The place that introduced me to them was Ponderosa! I also make a huge lunch salad which follows a workout. I want to shout out to you that I purchased those fantastic lids for all my wide mouth mason jars and store so many things in them! Now - I am also a Type A person, but a Gemini -- that is where the need for variety comes in for me! But I do love good organization!
@MonsonMadeThis
@MonsonMadeThis 3 жыл бұрын
Great minds! Though I've never been to Ponderosa. I missed out! And I'm so glad that you like the lids. It was a revelation to me when I found them because I loved using mason jars, but I hated the rusty metal lids! There are some bamboo ones on the market, too that I want to "upgrade" to one day. Maybe I can donate my plastic ones...

Thanks! Yeah, it's a bit of a time investment at first, but then you have it ready to go for when you don't have the time. I try to not prep more than 2 or 3 days worth so that things don't get funky, but then I just keep up on it as I go, replenishing as I need, or adding new things that I find at the store. I'm still usually cutting one or two things each time, but then the rest is shake and go!

I like the pre-prepped salad bar idea. I will try to get something like that together. Right now I'm being very lazy and having green drinks for breakfast. As easy as your ready to go salad bar is the green drink is even easier to grab and go and get those greens down, at least for me.

Love the salad bar concept! I have been eating more salads because it is my go to fav lunch item in spring and summer. I got a big bottle of vegan Cesar dressing from costco and I will a mix or just some romaine, baby spinach and baby kale depending on what I have. I have some cherry tomatoes I love putting on it, hand shredded carrots because I like the texture. I also love some brininess of olives normally kalamata and then just different things I have on hand like veggies that need to be used up and I get these croutons from costco that are vegan and they are the perfect topping to the whole thing. My partner isn’t the biggest fan of salads so normally I have to entice him with some warm roasted items like vegan chicken fingers or roasted potatoes or I do love a roasted crunchy chickpea in the place of croutons those are always delicious and don’t take too much time. I have also really been craving just some basic veggie sandwiches. I toast them, put hummus on one piece and the mayo mustard mix that you showed in the cold cuts video in the other. I love adding some baby spinach mix and then some raw thick cut zucchini I love the flavor of raw zucchini and what makes the sandwich is some oil packed sun dried tomatoes that are just flavor bombs with a little raw onion and some pickles. It sounds so weird but it truly hits the spot and fills me up every time.

The avocado stores very well. I always store the half with the pit still in it, and it stays great for days and days. At worst, there might be a lightly browned layer on the top after a couple of days, but the meat underneath is perfect.

You’re doing great. Maybe take a break if it’s too overwhelming. I think maybe it’s overkill with as many things as you prepped. I hope you can use all of that before it goes bad. I need to eat more salads. I should do some mild prepping of the pickled things, etc. I have mid eastern turnip pickle from my garden, and also some refrigerator cucumber pickle. It’s getting out of high heat season, so I should be able to grow lettuce again. I hope y’all are doing well.
@MonsonMadeThis

Thanks, Daniel. I do prep a lot of different things, but I don't prep too much of each. I try to not cut up or prep more than I'll eat in 2 or 3 days. Also, sometimes I steal from it for other things. The chopped onion ends up being used daily. I used the summer squash for a pasta dish the very next day. It's nice to know you have things ready to go, and the best way for me to eat more veggies, it to have more veggies (ready to eat) in the house.
@itme7685
@itme7685 3 жыл бұрын
You should really try the Mid East turnip pickles. They are common for falafel, but good in salads. It’s just turnips sliced and not cooked, but you pour a hot brine over. A few beets pieces are added for great color. If the recipe doesn’t call for garlic, you should put some in. It keeps for months in fridge due to lots of vinegar and salt. I canned some to preserve as well.
