My grandfather worked at the Yerington mine and rockhounding was one of my grandparents' favorite activities (they accumulated quite a few nice samples). Before the pit filled with water (I actually took a tour to the bottom of it when the mine was in operation) you could see the characteristic blue-green copper color in the exposed rocks on the east end of the pit closest to the river, and at a greater depth, a dark grey color of copper sulfide minerals at the west end. Both were mined; different processing methods were used for the two to purify the copper. A couple other places where good samples might be found are the Ludwig mine site, on the west side of the mountains a few miles south of Mason Pass, and the Bluestone mine, overlooking the town of Mason. Both predate the pit mine by several decades.

Wow, that's so cool. Do you know approximately when it filled with water? That would have been incredible to see!

What an amazing adventure and the finds are just WOW! I am going to love a trip out to the west. I really love the western part of our country, fell in love with the west years before I got rockhounding syndrome lol. I live in Kentucky and I am planning a trip out there as soon as I sell my house! I will have a wait time before getting another house so I am planning to go on a very long road trip lol. Been collecting must visit areas! Loved your video and you all not only found amazing rocks you brought the fun with it!

Looks like a fun area. I've been wanting to dig some azurite. Might have to head down that way and poke around.
@wefossick_meekosmineАй бұрын
Absolutely! I can highly recommend this area... azurite is absolutely everywhere. You won't have to poke around too far to find it!

I just love thinking that someone in a truck is passing me on the highway and contrary to popular opinion, he doesn't have his hands on the steering wheel nor, does he plan on doing so.....lmao

Mine tailings or mine dump

Tailings... adjacent to the active mine, but outside of current property fencelines on BLM land that adjoins. Do remember not to trespass - always know where you are hunting and make sure you are allowed to be there!

Too much selfie and not enough rock video....why do you tubers always feel the need to constantly film themselves?....very uninteresting

4 days and 4 states is not enough time to properly hunt for rocks.
