Chopper is the proverbial Rock Hound. Rock hounding in Arizona brought me up close and personal to many a rattlesnake, scorpions and snowbird. Ha. There are trainers, for dogs, that snake train pooches. Your eye is amazing. Rock on, be well and stay safe.

Wow!!! Anytime we go to eastern Washington and Oregon, I’m always worried about rattle snakes. I have an irrational fear of snakes, and always seem to see them. I had a gopher snake scare me at Graveyard point!! You always seem to find beautiful bright Jaspers. We do have some beautiful jaspers here, in the rivers.

I saw that you were close to the "Hell Creek" formation while walking in on the first part of your video, that's dino bone area! 👌 Glad you spotted the ratter before he saw you! That's the bad part of fossil hounding, snakes everywhere in the "Bear paw" areas.. Have seen my share for sure. Your change of plans was a good move my friend... Scored some beautiful material. Great video..👌👍 PS: Now your Scaphites have a story behind them ..😎

Dino bone country is my favorite area in the world. I feel like I'm going back in time..I never know what I'm going to find. But you are right...it's snake country. 🐍 Gosh, I wish I didn't freak myself out so much because I really would have loved to find some more fossils. I saw a mountain lion super early in the morning too. It jumped up the steep, rocky hillside at Olympic speed and went over the top. I never saw it again. I'm going to head out again but next time I'm dragging Theo with me.

So glad that chopper did`nt get bitten by that snake, I h a t e snakes. We have only one that can be deadly, very rare though that someone die, but very early this year, one person did, so, maybe they are more poisoned some years. I have some snakes in my garden, but those are lizzards without legs and one type is very small. You did find some LOVELY rocks in the end, very good and I love Jasper as always.

Thank you Kim.

wonderful day rock-hounding. In the Lethbridge area, we get some shells, petrified wood, coal etc, but no agate, which is sad!:( I may have to take a holiday in Montana to look for some:) And you also had a lovely meadowlark fly up!:) COOL! I also did not realize that from the wash down from the mountains I had been passing up red jasper! GADS!! Will correct that mistake!

I’ve wondered about the dog getting on rattlesnakes before. Between falling off a cliff, bears and now rattlesnakes… you might need to consider your safety a bit more. Maybe you need a more aggressive companion like a Rottweiler or Rhodesian ridgeback. You at least need a can of bear spray on ya. Not to mention the crazy humans that run around in the wilds. 😂 be safe Girly!

Holy cow! Yeah watching your dog, of any size, come face to face with a rattle snake, is scary! You fear for your pets life and your own! But the snake really doesn't want to bite your dog. It will if it has to, but it would prefer just to be able to slither away and hide. Chopper is too big for the rattler to eat, and every drop of venom that it wastes biting a potential threat, means a meal missed for the snake. If it wanted to bite chopper, it would have. And chopper was smart to leave when he did. If he would have stuck around any longer, the snake might have thought of him as a threat, and bit. But if you ever hear a rattle it means you are close to a rattler and if you leave or give him the chance to leave, everybody is happy. And if you ever come across a baby rattler, they are mean and can't control their venom so chances are, you will die. They will charge you and try to bite anything.it is best to run away from baby rattlers. But let's talk about those ammonites! Holy moly they were awesome! Did you get a chance to grab them before the snake incident? I hope so! What an amazing first find! And the rocks you found in the creek were awesome too! You really had an amazing day, minus the snake! Thanks for letting us tag along Kim!
