The ending was always great. People just wanted to know more about the "after". We've been with all these different characters for three games, and while the overall story was closed, we still wanted to know how those individual characters were affected after the fact,

He's really not even a villain. He was merely programmed to fulfill his task by the Leviathans. Even the Leviathans are not evil. The closest thing to a villain would be the Illusive Man.

I'm gonna say i liked the ending too. I had a hunch all this was leading to an ultimate sacrifice. Look at game trilogy's that have a good storyline, usually in the 3rd and final one someone of importance dies. I think what hurt my ending personally is the fact that i hadn't beaten the game yet and i saw people's whining on facebook etc about how the ending sucked so when i finally got to the end i was more focused on it sucking rather than sitting there and enjoying a fantastic trilogy.

Was explained during the Leviathan DLC. It's an A.I construct created to xome up with a solution to preserve life. Its answer was to systematically wipe out advanced species at set intervals before they had the ability to destroy the galaxy, leaving other species to grow and prosper to the same point thus the 'infinite' cycle of destruction

Really the Catalyst is a less malevolent version of CLU from Tron Legacy. He was asked to create "the perfect system" by the Leviathans just as CLU was asked to create the same by Flynn.

I hate this squirt for different reasons. I don't trust him because even though he turned most of his creators into Harbinger, because his first attempts at reaching Synthesis always failed, he didn't harvest all of his creators, they are alive and hiding from the Reapers, and he is still trying to find a solution that satisfies their desires, and his creators used to enslave all organic life, his creators see themselves as the apex of organic life and see other races as "lesser" species. Plus, I also suspect that the creation and use of the Crucible is what the Catalyst needed to get to the final step of reaching the solution that satisfies the descendants of his creators, its just that whether he wins or loses depends on the choice we make.
@LightStreak56710 жыл бұрын
***** Hahaha, ikr? But what if they were holdng back their full power? I mean, if their intention really was to destroy all organic life, the war against them would really be impossible to win, and they would attack primitive civilizations too, not just the advanced ones.
@aleksei517210 жыл бұрын
Recently I finished ME3 third time. And I rethought my opinion about "blue" ending. Initially I thought it's the best ending because Shepard is reborning into something great. But now I realized that Shepard just sacrifies himself to allow the Catalyst consume his mind and understand organics. Mostly because of voice. It's almost Catalyst's voice then Shepard is a man.
@LightStreak56710 жыл бұрын
I came to that conclusion too several months ago. In the last Mass Effect comic book I read, the 13th issue of Mass Effect Foundation, there was this guy who says to a kid trying to steal some stuff from his locker: "Taking everything that a man has is the same as taking away his life." That quote led me to realize that Shepard really does die in the "blue" ending.
@TheArtofUTube10 жыл бұрын
You said "he didn't harvest all of his creators, they are alive and hiding from the Reapers, and he is still trying to find a solution that satisfies their desires" I ask you: How do you know they are hiding? the ones Shepard encounter are hiding. I must speculate by what we are presented with. Remember what happened to the Protheans when they were invaded by the Reapers. The Reapers went from system to system, planet to planet, city to city, destroying the Protheans. Yet, at least one Prothean survived. Javik. There may be more of them somewhere in the galaxy alive. But, to my point: How do we know the Apex race is indeed hiding from the Reapers? Well, as the Reapers did to the Protheans they also did to the Apex race. However, the Apex was the first race to have the Harvest done to them. How do we know the Apex race did not find a way to hide in dark space as the Reapers do? How do we know if the Apex race built another Mass Relay to another Galaxy? Or simple escaped the Milky Way altogether and left the Reapers to Harvest the Milky Way. The reapers as far as we know only managed to do the Harvest to the Milky Way. not the entire universe.
@aleksei517210 жыл бұрын
marylain69 I think alive creatures can't live in Dark Space. And it seems like Catalyst had access to all resources and technologies of his creators and his attack was sudden and quick so the probability of escaping is very little. But who knows :)

/Sigh. They didnt blow it up because the citadel IS the Catalyst. The reapers were in the recesses of dark space (the space between galaxies) Synthesis means to create something from two materials, everyone in that ending become something nenot half robot. The energy pulse is calibrated in three ways one to rewrite DNA, one to rewrite the command structure of the reapers and another to wipe them clean. no one knows what happens after the relays are damaged, probably wait for them to be rebuilt.

While I get and agree with the ending controversy, I have to ask: why do people have a problem with the Catalyst's circular logic? I mean, yes: his logic is bad, it's incorrect and flawed. But... he's the villain. The villain's logic is supposed to be flawed. That's why they're the villain. Dure.
@Vartrex511 жыл бұрын
So explain for me please, how they got Citadel to earth, How can IM control your mind, explain me how crucible can change nature of this A.I. when creators of it didn´t even know it exist? Why this kid just didn´t kill Shepard with reapers? What does it mean Shepard can control reapers, but in same time he´s dead. Why destroying some cabels(or what is it) can "turn on" crucible? How can jumping into some kind of light can "turn on" crucible? And so on, youtobe wont´ let me continue.

Huh.....Who are you?.....I am the Catalyst.....
@Mikelo22011 жыл бұрын
We have a problem with the Catalyst because Shepard just goes along with it. Our entire journey through Mass Effect consisted of Shepard standing up to people, good or bad, and taking his own path. Why, then, should Shepard accept this circular-logic with no argument? My Shepard would never have accepted that genocide must be committed in order to save the galaxy. He would have found another way...just like he always had done before. After all, that's why Shepard was so famous & respected.

Catalyst Logic was not flawed. It was simply beyond the comprehension of many people who come to immature and ignorant deductions like "They destroy organics to save them" instead of at least trying to understand the facts given by the Catalyst

No you are just hunting for anything. It wouldn't make any sense for the good guys to have a super weapon in a story just to have it be destroyed and have the story end badly. People would hate that more than anything else.

So do I. But quality of this part of game was far below the rest of ME3. I would prefer high quality ending which does not meet my personal preferences rather than ending which does not meet ME quality standards. So for me, it's something like one out of three(one point for personal preferences, two points for quality). For some people it's zero out of three. No wonder that they bitching. Awesome soundtrack, though.

Something like that. ME2's soundtrack had all-out epic atmosphere. ME3 was more like a cryfest. Don't misunderstand me, I love the sh*t out of ME3's score (EC version of "An end once and for all" is on my phone), but compared to "Suicide Mission" or "The End Run" it is weak, especially for endgame.

See, I think the 'right' option would be go to hell Catalyst, we will fight. Why play the reapers game with these dumbshit options? Perhaps maybe at an enormous cost, but not one that will cripple civilization, and defeat the very reason you were fighting in the first place. I think the ending was kind of a kick in the balls because the writing was so good up to that point. I mean, who wrote Mordin Solus' scenes because those were excellent. But the end, da hell was that?
