Hearing this theme again reminds me of how I wish the series stayed committed with Gohan as the protagonist after Goku's second death, looking back on the way Dragon Ball for the most part was handled - post Cell Saga. Obviously Gohan at this point doesn't like to fight given his traumatic experiences, but it would've still been far more interesting to see him grapple with balancing being a scholar to make himself and his mother proud, his responsibilities defending the Earth, training with the rest of the Z-Fighters, his potential, raising his own family with Videl, being the strongest mortal and seeing him try to maintain or change the way he feels about Saiyan culture over the course of his life. Everything was being set up for Gohan to take over as the protagonist, the potential for development was all there. Who knows how much higher the heights of Dragon Ball could've gone with him in that role. It truly irks me to no end to think about what could've been with such a good character like him. What an absolute shame. RIP Toriyama.

Am I the only one who wanted Gohan, still frustrated with how many half-hearted attempts he made to defeat Cell that got people killed (like Goku) to be the one who kept training with Piccolo and Vegeta, becoming the first Saiyan to go SSJ3? Gohan going SSJ3, overpowering the Supreme Kai’s plans, vaporizing Videl’s opponent, and channeling some Vegeta Saiyan “nah, no waiting lile the Android Saga, we’ll disintegrate Babbity and Buu now!” would’ve stopped how much death?
