Here's part 5 of my new Mass Effect Lore series to get you ready for The Mass Effect Legendary Edition. In todays video I take a deep dive look at the Infiltrator class and everything it has to offer, as well as looking at how the class evolved across the trilogy and some tips and advice on some of the best companions that pair nicely with this class.

@@LaMartiniquee Sorry I'm a PC purist, never played with a controller :) I would guess something that needs very few different skills to be successful - maybe a soldier and let the squadmates use their own skills. Or you could play on one of the lower difficulties and enjoy it more for the story.

@@212mochaman eh, scope drift was really only a problem for sniper rifles because you were floating all over the place even at high levels of the trained skill and the best guns/mods. And not every class is a gun expert (see Adept).

My go to is the infiltrator class. It's diverse, useful in all games, and absolutely devastating when using a sniper rifle. And I prefer to keep my enemies at a distance.

Sucks when you stealth on Insanity though, your squad mates die instantly in ME2 when you stealth, otherwise all the enemies fire at you and ignore your squadmates most of the time. Though stealth is awesome once all squad mates are done, cause you can use it to escape melee based enemies by escaping them and going to a new cover area while they just stand there waiting for your stealth to wear off.

Fun fact nobody asked. I always go for Colonist Shepard when I play Infiltrator, this is cuz I like the idea that Colonist Shepard grew up sniping wild varren and killing prey to eat in the colony, so he refined his/her's marksmanship. I also like to romance Infiltrator femshep with Garrus.

@@N7Kate Yeah, for any Shepard with a class that has biotics I like to make him or her Spacer For Earthborn Shepard I usually go for Sentinel, Soldier or Engineer. I love that Mass Effect makes you use your own headcannons and imagination for your Shepard.

I agree, but honestly, in ME3, it´s just way too easy to play. Once you get Energy Drain from Tali, you just aim your rifle, use ED (if they have shields at all), headshot, and the enemy is dead. When playing an Infiltrator, you honestly don´t even need any squadmates, both in ME2 and ME3. Your damage output is so high and so rapid, that most enemies are dead before they even fire at you. I eventually started to prefer classes that require a little bit more teamwork, like the Engineer or the Sentinel.

Rise up, indeed! Gotta admit, I like the Vanguard a tiny bit more than the Sentinel. But when I play the Sentinel I'm extremely aggressive! I love to spec my tech armour to maximize the explosive wave upon its destruction. First I semi-cautiously move in on my targets, softening them up with suppressive SMG fire and area/chain overload. I then charge and mop up the floor with the grunts that made my armour explode with (auto)shotguns, once they're flat on their asses. It really pairs well with a strong sniper ally and someone with biotic crowd control. So much fun! How do you like to play your Sentinel?

@@SidheKnight for my sentinel I ALWAYS pick warp ammo. Warp cuts through health, armor, and barriers. Sentinels have overload too to cut through shields easily.

I like the fact that each of the classes seem to have their own various strengths and weaknesses and how 3 of the classes are hybrid classes: Vanguard, Infiltrator, & Sentinel. While the other 3 classes are more designated classes: Soldier, Adept, & Engineer.

My old Shepard was an infiltrator (will probably recreate her for legendary edition). My favourite combos from me3 was using crio ammo with the scorpion pistol. Freeze the enemy initially than straight afterwards they explode. So satisfying

My favorite class, especially once the Lazarus Project adds in the cloak. Vanguard gets space boost. Engineer gets their own Chatika lol 😝. Infiltrator can cloak.

In me3 top 3 are energy drain, marksman (if using the indra or black widow), stasis (since you can damage them). All 3 of can and should be used within the cloak cause they'll borrow the recharge speed of the cloak, not the power, if you immediately fire

Ah infiltrator, went to this class after finishing ME1 as a sentinel in me2. Loved this class so much I picked it up again for ME3. Thing is... I didn't use the cloak too much lol. Usually used more of the ammos and incinerate.

Anybody who has played the ME3 multiplayer for a long while can tell you it's generally a good idea to use a power to break tactical cloak because: 1. the cooldown of the power is ignored (your global cooldown will only be tactical cloak) 2. you actually have the damage buff for a small duration, so you can immediately take a shot after using a power and still get bonus damage. With that in mind, Sabotage is one of the strongest secondary powers you can use with Infiltrator because it's an instant hit stun that lets you line up easy head shots. Cloak -> Sabotage -> Head shot.

If you're curious about which shotgun to use, consider piranha for close up nuking. You can technically ignore sniper rifles altogether (works as soldier too) with the claymore shotgun, which fires slugs. If I remember correctly, there's also an interesting interaction with beam weapons such as the prothean particle rifle and collector particle sniper and tactical cloak where as long as you hold the trigger down and don't let go, the whole discharge gains the damage buff.

Since there is a maximum degree to which a sniper rifle can overheat, I stack rails and explosive ammo and just accept that it will overhead with each shot, turning it into a portable cannon. Some of the late game rifles with 2x scram rails and explosive ammo don't even overheat with each shot either, making them extremely powerful.

really bummed they took explosive ammo out, i used it for the first time in ME1 LE...with two cooling attachements..was able to get 3 shots off (well timed) w/out over heating...so devastating.

My very first playthrough of Mass Effect consisted of: Engineer> Infiltrator> Engineer I actually plan to go all Infiltrator this playthrough with a pistol and assault rifle. The one thing I learned about myself with shooters early on is that I'm not a fan of seeing everything through a scope, so I'm ecstatic to give the Infiltrator another go around with what is going to be a great revamped version of Mass Effect 1.

Also with tactical cloak if you spec it right you can use a tech power and still get a shot off before it dissipates since it allows a delay after using a tech power. So imagine this combination; tactical cloak, sticky grenade, incinerate then sniper rifle shot with cryo ammo equipped

You can play Engineer in ME1 and then change to Infiltrator in ME2 & 3, since in those games Infiltrators have Hacking (in ME3 it's called "Sabotage" but it's essentially AI Hacking + Decryption combined into one power). That is, if changing classes doesn't bother you. I don't like doing it, but the option exist.

@@Supernautiloid Dont forget that after you finish the game, you can play second time and get hacking as your bonus talent. So, you can play infiltrator with additional hacking. (I personally chose a biotic CC ability in order avoid fighting entire groups. => Infiltrator with Singularity is my favority BUT you can have there hacking if you love that skill on your second playthrough)

In ME3, I always enjoyed maxing out head shot and weapon related damage and having the black widow and a nearly weightless smg to abuse tactical cloak. Taking down harvesters in insanity was hilarious.

This is my favorite class followed closely by Engineer. Being able to hack everything with Shepard is a big plus and something that wasn't mentioned in the video is being able to jump out of the Mako and engage enemies on foot for maximum damage. Infiltrator is extremely good at taking out Geth and Turrets. Even taking out Thresher Maws is somewhat easy with the Infiltrator in ME1. In ME3, Infiltrator becomes really good as there are wide range of weapons that can be used like Shotguns and ARs which are extremely satisfying with the Infiltrator.

My infiltrator when I played because I did new game plus and I ran with the black widow you could buy at the specter terminal, avenger, the first pistol you start with (forgot the name), and the smg that was super accurate (again forgot the name). My weight was at 91% so I still had a very fast cool down.

My head-canon Shepard is FemShep who’s a infiltrator with biotics and John Wick style hand-to-hand and shooting skills. She also takes a gunpowder based (regular) shotgun loaded with shaped-charge (high explosive anti-tank) rounds as a “privately acquired personal defense weapon”, the low velocity rounds not activating personal kinetic barriers.

You can get an upgrade in the Normandy SR2 tech lab that will give an infiltrator biotic powers in ME2 this power will carry over to ME3.

Everyone says Infiltrator is the best for sniping because of Tactical Cloak in ME2, but I disagree. I'm convinced the Adrenaline Rush's benefits allow the Soldier to do sniping just as good and even better than the Infiltrator -Infiltrator's Tactical Cloak gives up to +75% damage, Soldier's Adrenaline Rush gives up to +140% -Slow down time dilation? Adrenaline Rush goes up to 70% time dilation. Tactical cloak only 60% -Duration: Adrenaline Rush 5 secs, Tact. Cloak slow down ~2 secs -Adrenaline Rush does not go away after one shot, so Shepard can fire multiple shots on sniper rifles as opposed to Tactical Cloak's just one. -While in Adrenaline Rush, Shepard is theoretically moving at super speed compared to everyone else who is moving at normal speed. Tact. Cloak Shepard moves at normal speed. With all of that, it's almost clear that Adrenaline Rush is the better tool for sniping. The one aspect that Tactical Cloak has that Adrenaline Rush can't compare is the invisibility mechanic. However moving at faster speeds than everyone else while in Adrenaline Rush could be said more than makes up for this. Besides the Invisibility of Tactical Cloak, in all other comparable instances Adrenaline Rush > Tactical Cloak for damage, duration, time slow, and at times even shots fired. People keep forgetting or skimping on just how strong the Soldier's Adrenaline Rush ability is. The Soldier can snipe just as good and better than the Infiltrator. So for the sentiment "If you like sniping..." go Soldier. Infiltrator no doubt has it's merits (tech powers, invisibility). I'm just tired of people saying it's the best Sniping class when I know it isn't the case.

For sniping, going invisible and not being aggroed by enemies, Infiltrator would be better. For pure damage, then Soldier would be.

ME1 "sniper rifle" builds either use 2 High Explosive material X (for max damage), or use 2 Frictionless material X (for more follow up shots) this lets you to pick between a high-power single shot rifle which is basically the same thing as a 50BMG bolt action or a something more like a .308 AR10 SAPR style rifle. Or you could split the difference and use one of each and have a precision rifle .338 Lapua magum style rifle with lower 5-ish round capacity.🤷‍♂️

I always loved playing the Infiltrator and, except for when I've challenged myself to play every class I always go back to it...The one reason I sometimes take up the Engineer on ME3 is to get the Paragon prompt during the Omega mission...

​@@N7Kate I haven't upgraded to the Legendary edition where Sniper Rifles were modded to be more accurate, so in ME1 I ran mostly side missions until I had money enough to get a reasonably accurate Sniper Rifle...During a mission I let my team tank the damage while I stand off and flank the enemy when possible, sniping and healing the team...In ME2 and ME3 with the aiming improvements I REALLY stand back...If I can get the enemy in the scope I can drop them and it doesn't seem to matter how far off they are...Except for when it's relative close quarters I barely need a team and in those cases I'm hiding until the tactical cloak and running away...

I didn’t really try infiltrator in single player, but in multiplayer I loved the salarian infiltrator with a shotgun

Probably the best class throughout the entire trilogy. It was either the best class or tied for the best class in each game. In ME3, you could argue for any class being the best class, with the exception of soldier. The soldier took a small step back in that game.

I'd agree with this. IMO, Soldier was the best in ME1, but Infiltrator was a close 2nd (far ahead of the other classes). In ME2 it would again be either Soldier or Infiltrator. ME3 I have to give to Sentinel due to combo explosions, but once again Infiltrator is 2nd (possibly tied with Vanguard, Van is so fun in ME3). And yeah, Soldier sucked bad in ME3. Overall though, if you wanted to stick with one class for the whole trilogy, you can do a lot worse than Infiltrator 😄

@@ryanball8944 I'd give the Infiltrator a small edge in ME1 due to eliminating the need to bring a tech-based squadmate with you to open containers or hack mission terminals for assignments. Tech squadmates are rather squishy in ME1 due to lack of barrier or immunity and poor AI. In ME2, Infiltrator seems specifically made for Insanity runs, but if you have the DLC for the Mattock assault rifle, a Mattock-Widow Soldier run is stupidly easy. In ME3, if forced to choose I'd say Infiltrator was the best. Tactical Cloak is so good with shotguns and the Black Widow and you still have Incinerate and the Hacking/Sabotage skill. I've gone through Insanity practically untouched with Infiltrator. Vanguard is right behind for me but you occasionally take a hit, but that actually makes the class fun. Sentinel just has a ton of versatility and ways to build and play it. Engineer and Adept are in the mix but I find the power spam behind a barricade boring, particularly with Engineer since it has too many skills. I feel like Engineer is the only class on console that can't be effectively condensed down to three action abilities. Soldier suffers primarily by being unexciting after every class seems to have gotten a big boost in 3.

@@loganschenk3871 yeah I agree tech squaddies are squishy in ME1. Except Garrus, he's the 3rd tankiest party member. And honestly I've never added party members for damage because they're so poor at it. I generally run Liara and Garrus on ME1 for crowd support, but usually forget they're there. I'd give the edge to soldier in my opinion because after about halfway through assualt rifles trump everything else for DPS, and Soldiers are so tanky with heavy armour, increased health and regen, you're unkillable while having the highest DPS of any class. But Infiltrator is only slightly behind in offense and defense while having better burst damage I'm happy to give ME2 to Infiltrator. Hardened Adrenaline Rush Soldier needs none of the bonus weapons, but Widow gives outrageous burst damage and Revenant gives exceptional close range dps. But with the locust and widow, Infiltrator beats Soldier on Insanity. I have a Soldier bias for ME1 and 2, but the Infiltrator is objectively better on Insanity. I'd likely give it an edge on Hardcore too. ME3 I still have to give it to Sentinel by a pretty wide margin. Liara singularity and Shep throw going off every second just gives incredible dps, both single target and crowd. Slap a Harrier on him with Warp Ammo to cover your bases and everyone dies. Fast

little off topic, tho inflitrator is my favorite class cool vid i really want mass effect 4 to have all companions in a mission. classic ghost recon/republic commando style tactical combat. i would think ps5 gen that can handle 60 player battlefield matches should be able to run a dozen squadmates and 30 to 50 enemies at once. really open up the maps for exploration, with vehicles like the mako. maybe even organize fireteams like the collector base appointing a No. 2 to lead a group and give them an objective, or stay on the 'not normandy' and call them in later for extraction/back up. like real time xcom almost

I always considered the infiltrator as “canon Shepard”. Most missions are about infiltrating after all. Support role doesn’t fit to a leader character, and soldier is more like the “meat” of the battle, not the brain. Infiltrator is more like the “smart” elite soldier, who leads the team, and can resolve most situation on its own.

He seems definitely like a soldier. In cutscenes he (like everyone else, including Liara etc., I know) uses Assault rifles, his normal outfit is too big for an infiltrator and he usually is the front liner, the one going in first (yes he has stealth ship with cloaking mechanisms) BUT he is usually putting his life on the line, people are saying "there is this group and a lot of times he chooses going straight to them or fight, only things like Reapers etc. he chooses the infiltration because they are just too powerful - hes a soldier but not a dumbfuck and knows his limits. On a side note, every game seems to have a different tome. ME1 - Shepard is the special forces agent kinda (they just call it Specter) where he operates like a CIA agent would ME2 - Shepard is like some resistence movement leader that doesnt fit any class (some closed group that relies on science mostly) as its Shepard the Scientist ME3 - Shepard is pure polititian (he does pretty much all political stuff in ME3 in order to unite everyone) The profession that fits him most throughout the series is "polititian" where he always assembles teams, unifies people, makes peace (or kills the side he/she deems irrelevant/hurtful to the mission) and soldier against enemies fightable (like Geth, Rachni, Vorcha etc.) while being infiltrator against enemies he cant fight head on (Collectors and Reapers) So, Shepard is really something in between imo, for me closer to being a soldier because I think he would talk or fight the people responsible directly rather than infiltrate something BUT its not always possible and he/she understands that. Fun fact: I like being infiltrator in 1 (best talents all round the board, especially on second playthrough where you can add a biotic power) and then turning soldier in the other 2 games. AND I like to put there a story behind him. Shepard used to be a petty thief, common criminal in the streets so he enlisted into military where he became an infiltrator (stealth is what he did from young age as a thief) after a disaster on Yakuze where he was the solo survivor he started training more and becoming stronger and tougher, which is not yet present as much in Mass effect 1 but over the time it grows more and more evident that his talents have changed from infiltrator to soldier and in ME3 he isnt stealing, stealthing, infiltrating any longer, he will stand his ground against the reapers, live or die? He will be remembered as the best soldier in the galaxy or not at all. (Well that is my headcanon background for my Shep)

Sabotage does not disable weapons. It adds a backfire that damages the target. It does not decrease how much they fire.
