Saren the Wise you say? Have you heard the Tragedy of Spectre Saren the Wise? I thought not, it is not astory the Alliance would tell you. Saren was a Spectre of the Citadel, so powerful and wise he could use the Reapers to influence Geth....he had such knowledge of the Reapers he could even keep his mind from dying. Reapers are a pathway to many abilities some considered unnatural. He became so powerful....the only thing he was afraid of was being indoctrinated, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately the Council taught Shepard everything they knew, then Shepard killed him in the Council Chambers. Ironic, he could save his mind from death, but not himself

The Illusive Man wants to be hero only for Humanity. TIM cares only for humanity. Saren on the other hand, seek to protect all species and races. In his mind he's truly doing what is right, in order to save everyone, because he actually cared, despite his showings of cruelty. Saren is truly the 'anti-Shepard', a villain, but also a hero in his own right. Too bad his story had to end in ME1, as there can be no way for him to continue past this. (other than... bringing him back from the afterlife, ala Sarevok from Baldur's gate, but this will be way too cheesy in ME context).

In ME2, it was debatable whether The Illusive Man was a villain at all. Then in ME3 they took a great big dump on that to dumb it down for the Call of Duty audience. They did the same with the Quarian-Geth conflict, Koris and Gerrel in particular. In ME2, a paragon Shepard had to consider that maybe the straight-talking, military uncle figure is doing the wrong thing and the "suit-wetting" politician who's trumped up charges against your friend might have the right idea. But even so, Gerrel made some good points and Koris wasn't Jesus. Then along comes ME3 and someone from marketing said "NO, that's too much nuance; it'll blow their little 12-year-old minds. Make Gerrel a complete dickhead who fires on the player for no reason and give him a trident and a rape dungeon... are you sure we can't add horns to his helmet?" (Oh also Udina... fucking hell) This is why I get annoyed when people say ME3 was just as good if you ignore the ending because the entire thing was a mess. Just because the ending was worse doesn't mean that the rest of the game was up to standard.

Saren managed to be trully scary at times. a Nemesis in every way, guided by a twisted moral he truly believed was right. Illusive Man was just... abusing the mystery character sterotype. In the end of the day he just revealed himself to be an ambitious man with unexplainable magic tech resources.

Cerberus' actions didn't entirely make sense. They're "bad guys" at the beginning of ME2, yet they roll out the red carpet for Shepard, expecting nothing in return. Until the end, when they expect Shepard to hand over the human reaper and abruptly become bad guys again (the plot directed you to blow up the station at the end, at least). I'm not sure how they expected their relationship with Shepard to go, it just seemed like clunky writing.

1:10 my first playthrough it kind of glitched so Saren just disappeared before the screen could go black so throughout the game I thought it was a teleportation device, and when my Shepard pushed Kaidan out of the way I was like "wait why didn't I go anywhere?" 😂😂😂

The problem is that it would mean that Saren has shot Nihlus willingly, while rn when it could be interpreted as Sovereign getting control over him and killing his friend (you can see his eyes glow up). I think he must have some "synthetic improvements" from the beginning, which the council would justify as necessary to increase his efficiency.

I don't get the Alliance's self-righteous anger over Saren's trial. Their case was flimsy as fuck, literally "We have an eyewitness (who's not here, here's his _written_ testimony), I had a dream, YOU GOTTA BELIEVE ME MAAAN." Wtf did they expect to happen? Don't they have any evidence, like an autopsy of Nihlus or ballistics or something? They could've presented evidence that Nihlus was shot in the back of the head at close range with a Carnifex (a weapon the Geth don't use). No it's not ironclad proof but it's at least a start.

Saren's motivations may seem foolish, but they are born from desperation. He KNOWS there is no winning, and even though there's no direct link to this, his plan is somewhat sound when considering the Collectors and the Keepers are constructs of the Reapers left to keep an eye on their technology and the organics. Perhaps that's what Saren was hoping for. "Is submission not preferable to extinction?" It was a long shot, and Sovereign clearly couldn't give damn, but that was the only possible card Saren could think of to play. Sure, depending on the ending of the trilogy, he was wrong, but that was a one in a million chance of succeeding. That being said, it was probably Saren's hatred for humanity that paved the way to his downfall.
