To those who are complaining about the units of mass being "pounds" and not an SI unit, "kg": 1. Google automatically does this conversion for you. So before claiming that the calculation is wrong, maybe you should do the math yourself. 2. "Real" physicists use whatever units are most convenient for the calculation. In particular, theoretical physicists use "natural units" where the speed of light (c) equals 1, and tend to use units of "electron volts" for energy. The input unit CAN be in kg depending on the units you use for the speed of light, and energy.

Atomic Ninja Everyone uses the metric system here in the UK too, pounds, feet and stone (dafuq?) etc are still used, but pretty much only in informal speech, when you shop at a supermarket, or order things online, everything is displayed in metric units.

For the entry on "that strikes the earth (from the Sun) every day", the energy value given appears to be for the amount of energy that strikes the earth from the sun every year. (4.02e24 J ~ 1.274e14 m^2 * 1361 J/s/m^2 * 60 s/min * 60 min/hour * 24 hour/day * 365 day/year) and leaving out the 365 results in ~1.498e22 J

I wish he had explained to the viewers that google converted pounds to kilograms! Many people still have the misconception that weight = mass!!! Plus, most of the world uses the SI system.

that is an amazing google trick. type in an amount of mass in grams then E=mc^2 and it will tell you the energy equivalence.

My main takeaway from this video: Google interpreted the word "pounds" in that input, converted the unit to kilos then computed the SI value for energy, assuming that's what you wanted given that you didn't specify that "c" actually was the speed of light in that context! Clever shit Google.

I like the scale you've created but I'm still having trouble understanding the comparison. If I'm reading it right, is the mass of a US dollar bill equal to the energy released by the nuke dropped on Hiroshima? Any chance you could expand on that?

Subbable is where they take their donations from to fund their videos and projects. KZbin subscriptions show how many people watch what they make. While Subbable is a place where people give them money to continue doing what they do. The incentives don't make much sense as your donation contributes to a perk/reward. A round about way of paying for it. Nonetheless if you enjoy the channel they encourage donations so they can continue doing their work that you enjoy. Hope this helps.

Although this is true, Google will correctly make the conversion if units are provided ;) For example, try: 165mph * 86 days and you'll get the distance travelled.

Araf Khan Yes. In particle physics, enough energy being present in certain processes can result in pair production, which is the creation of a particle and an antiparticle.
