You can tweak some things, but as a whole, don’t mess with it! The movies that have been hits for Marvel as a whole Weather, MCU, or not have been the ones where they were hands off! That’s why you got The sleeper hit werewolf by night. That’s why you got guardians of the Galaxy three. And that’s why you got Spider-Man: no way home! I realize games are a little different, but I can’t believe Sony even entertained this woke mess for this game Spider-Man 2. That’s why also Spider-Man animated, the two films based around Miles Morales, have been hits! They focused on making a good movie in a good story, and not on political messages! Not saying that you can’t have that in a film or TV show but it Hass to be part of the story and not preaching ! This is why a lot of these properties are failing, and the marvels from the looks of things is going to be the biggest word of all!

I don't get it. As a woman, I have always felt comfortable with male protagonists - hell. I am way more comfortable writing male characters than female characters. Your main character doesn't have to look exactly like you in order for you to be able to identify with them - humans are human, we all experience emotions (though the cause of those emotions can vary greatly, which is why good characters are all very different - and different from their writers). If someone can only identify with characters who look and act exactly like a super-powered version of themselves... wow, they are terrible writers and I don't care whether they're men or women, I wouldn't touch a damn thing they wrote.

Every author, male and female, writes his or her protagonists as self-inserts to a certain degree. This has always been so. It's not a problem and doesn't make the stories worse. The problem is that the modern feminists are specifically intent in "dismantling the patriarchy" by inserting themselves into existing works created by men, rather than inventing their own worlds. Hermione is a self-insert of JK Rowling but she doesn't make the stories worse, because she is not inserted into the story specifically to take down Harry and Ron. Additionally people are no longer hired because they are good writers but because the are activists. So many of them simply lack the skill to write good stories.

I'm a woman who grew up with boys. Where I lived, there was only one girl besides myself, the other kids were all boys. I guess that has affected me so much to the point that I don't play like that and I hate feminism and identity politics on my movies. Actually, I grew up loving Japanese characters and relating to them so much so that I felt understood. I'm from South America. One of my favorite characters of all times is Batman. It makes so much sense tho, women are very controlling. A girl once said that women who love male created media are misogynistic, and now it makes so much sense why my favorite writers and directors are men. JKR is not an anomaly, Hermione is a self-insert. I am a huge HP fan. I think that being capable to write compelling characters is also important and JKR knows how to do it. That study from lego is very interesting, one could wonder why we evolved like that as a species, i might have a few ideas but i'll keep it for myself. But this explains a lot why we are where we are now, since feminists took over hollywood, only them can relate with any character they make now, which is why everything is dying. As a Comic reader from decades of reading these characters I am mad that the MCU/Disney (Bob Iger/Kevin Feige) ignored the history of their own characters and making them a dumpster 🔥. I'm sorry, but I can't agree with you on this. What kind of toys were the girls given? Because I've seen a lot of girls, myself and my sister included, play with Barbie dolls for example and roleplaying as the princess they were depicting. It's the same with Disney princesses. And I've also seen boys taking princess dolls, dressing them up in trousers and fight with them as if they were knights. Boys do "self-insert" the same way. If you give a kid an unidentifiable doll, they will name it as a character they like. But girls would generally gravitate towards princess stories and boys towards superhero stories, and it's okay. You can play Pocahontas with a Spiderman figure and you can play Batman with a Princess and the Pauper set. To say that girls don't care about the "original" stories is plain wrong. They might not care about the same stories, but just as a boy might be able to recognize all types of storm trooper and clone helmets in the Star Wars universe, a girl will be able to sing every single song in her favourite Disney movies and tell you what Barbie'a animal sidekick was called in every single Barbie movie. Girls don't want to be Superman or Obi-Wan Kenobi, but they want to be Elsa and Erika. If you show a boy and a girl Animalia, wich character do you think will they want to become? Because my bet is on most boys would choose Alex and most girls would choose Zoe, not the other way around.

I think we should put in a caviat about female writers self-inserting even in a subconscious fashion. it is obviously a more modern issue and predominently affects the west, look at the work of female japanese Mangaka. these women have no issues writing diverse (as in: diversity of character/ideas) female characters without the need to insert themselves or having the characters feel so samey (like every boss girl marvel characters) and in the past, female writers like Agatha Christie and Mary Shelley didn't resort to self-insertion

Thats such a cool study. I knew there was differences in boys and girls (specifically when it comes to playing, its funny that corporations had to do a study to figure that out lol). My take on this, as a woman, and also as a hobby writer that does fanfics is, its 100% true, in my experience. In about 2015, i picked up fanfic writing to help develop my own skills and quickly fell in love with it. After the end of my first story, i asked my readers to pick what they would like to read next (to challenge myself and to learn more). My readers demographic was/is overwhelmingly female. They all asked for self insert (Y.N) stories. I had never heard of them before and had to look up what it meant. Apparently, its a really popular style for fanfics. So, i did it, because i asked. Not my cup of tea, so i reworked the style into a more of Original character with no self discriptions. I'd write the character with an actual name and give them their own personality (basically making them their own person/character, and then in editing, replace it for the self insert thing. I'd cross post the OG character version on one site and the self insert on others. And it was a hit. So, in a long winded way, yes, women, in my experience, have a high fascination with self inserting. And i dont know if it has something to do with our nurturing or empathetic nature, but i find if interesting to see just how it all makes sense now with what is being put out in hollywood. Side note, this also explains the degrade in skill for writing. Since these people (mostly women) are doing what is basically called "single voice" for their whole book. Making it that all their characters sound and act the same and not creating any unique interactions or problems for the story. Its bad writing.

I am a woman and I don't know if I agree with this idea that girls always self insert. I've never been one to self insert and I have met plenty of female writers who do not self insert. I think it's more of a lazy mindset that leads to that sort of writing and an inability to step out of oneself. I don't even think women prefer stories with self-insert characters either. That's partly where the legend of the first 'Mary Sue' came from. It was just such a bad story that people resoundingly disliked the self-insert character in it. When I have taken a setting and completely altered it, it was not purposefully to make it 'in my own image' but more because I did not understand it fully and I just wanted to see what I could do with the setting. It was lazy on my part. A good writer who is not lazy is not going to do a self insert in my opinion.

It is so noticable that woke writers have no idea how writing a 'self-insert character' is meant to be done. We refer to the proper application among other names the 'blank-slate' a self-insert should NEVER be the author unless it were an autobiography (for obvious reasons) but should ALWAYS be a character that any reader can self-insert in. Usually isekai anime and light novels,for all the writing and storytelling flaws and tropes they rely on, they get the self-insert/blank-slate protagonist right.

Rowling has always said in interviews that she based Hermione Granger off of how she used to be in school, which is why the narrative rarely calls out Hermione on some of the questionable actions she takes.
