Dude, this battle was tactical GENIUS. You out skirmished, outflanked, and overall dominated the field! Every hand was your hand, and the enemy didn’t know what to do. Superb!

That was a great battle on Legendary. Well done. - It is always a good thing when the 24 h is in close support. Even 3-star units hate canister to the face from the 24 h.

Nicely done. I usually get them trapped in the opposite corner. In these winning situations, think about the direction you want to push them in ahead of time and give them an escape away from the objective. Nice massacre!

My new units for 2nd Bull Run are gonna be cheap/free because I have something like 15,000 rifles already paid for in my armory. You won't see me spend nearly as much in the next few battles.

Not much to say on Kettle Run. That was as good as it gets. The only difference would have been to push from the south and rout them into the northwest corner for a shorter victory time but the casualties would be the same. Thoroughfare Gap is another battle where you can build a good defensive line along a river with woods on your side. The only thing to watch out for is they have reserves that come in from the northern road near your starting position. If you get a brigade up there you can catch them immediately in a bad position.

What is the point of disbanding units to drive up the stats of the manpower pool and then in the next step buying all vets? We only benefit from the higher stats in the pool if we add recruits. Especially for the 1-star unit, the difference between a recruit and a vet was not that great, but the cash difference is huge.
@MrBNutzer5 жыл бұрын
If they're so much down, charge and push them to surrender even if you take more men out then you'll get after the battle, but i think it gives you more weapons. Maybe you should use the running button more for your troops. Two or three star brigades are reacting themselves to fire at a charging enemy brigade even from the flank as well. Works much better if the corps commander is around. Noticed that on both sides.
@SomethingCompass5 жыл бұрын
These are some very good points. Enemy units that are isolated and alone are more likely to surrender, and units that surrender lower the enemy manpower pool. Shattered units return to the manpower pool. I don't think that we get more weapons, but pandakraut has a mod that gives more weapons from captured men. I would have had every unit charge the last remaining unit. Fortunately it surrendered anyway. In addition, there is a huge buff if we have two units in melee against one enemy, which almost guarantees a win. And this does have the benefit of increasing the melee stat. - The run button allows units to turn and fire much faster, especially if we target a new enemy unit. A unit will turn and fire almost instantly if it is set to Run. - Everything works better if the Corps Commander is around. The moral regen buff is crucial on Legendary difficulty.
@pandakraut85945 жыл бұрын
Unless you are using a mod you only receive the weapons from the men killed. There is no return from capturing or shattering a unit. So in the base game unless you want the recruits you're better off just shooting them until they shatter for getting weapons.
@MrBNutzer5 жыл бұрын
@@pandakraut8594 I've got no mod installed but played Ultimate Civil War nearly 1200 hours till yet. Always trying to push them to surrender as many as i can and that counts for weapons and enemy training rate at the entire campaign as well in my opinion. For my best troops the running button is mostly on always. Check it yourself, when in range they react themselv and turning around immediately to fire from the flank if an enemy brigade is charging to another of your own army if your brigade aren't all lined up, angled a bit will be just fine...
@pandakraut85945 жыл бұрын
@@MrBNutzer Getting units to surrender will affect the enemy AISize(shown by the intelligence report army size value) more than shattering them. Reducing the AISize also reduces training and weapons so capturing is definitely the best option for that purpose. However you won't get any weapons from the remaining men in the unit that surrendered. I can link you my bug report on the issue if you would like an example? - I never disagreed that having a unit on run causes it to react faster? I personally don't use run that much as I don't find it necessary, but the exhaustion penalties in the base game are fairly minor so running everywhere can work out.

Are there any negatives to dissolving units that cannot be in battles as you did during this video? Other than the fact that you lose their war record? If the recruits who come from a dissolved unit keep their experience, morale and condition I don't see very many negatives to dissolving every unit after each battle and then recreating exactly what you want to take into the next.
@pandakraut85945 жыл бұрын
Disbanded units experience is averaged with those in the recruit pool. The disbanded units probably had stats in the 30s and since the recruit pool was pretty big averaging those results in the small stat increase shown. - Despite the small increases, it can definitely be worthwhile to fill out all your corps in some of the larger battles, gain what experience you can and then disband back down any units you won't be keeping for the next set of battles as long as you have the spare weapons and recruits. - Some players do disband their entire army and rebuild it for every battle. Zero money spent on veterans with this approach but it will take longer to get higher ranked units overall. I haven't played this way myself but it seems like only disbanding the infantry and leaving the other units intact might be the way to go.
@SomethingCompass5 жыл бұрын
@@pandakraut8594 There is an interesting variation of this which I managed to pull off in one campaign. That is to put all of the raw recruits into units, and then disband units and reform them into larger units. So if I have 2x units of 1k men at 70 efficiency, I can disband them and reform them into a new unit at no cost. You never have to buy vets and the best units only go up in efficiency. Significantly, unit traits all increase after every battle. This requires putting a lot of green units into the army as fast as possible to generate 1-star units. - Doing this between every battle takes a very long time, especially because you must do each unit type separately. - This technique became impractical once I started to get a high kill ratio, and it is too boring to do.
@pandakraut85945 жыл бұрын
@@SomethingCompass Yeah, I normally only do the empty the pool and disband in the very early or very late battles when I have a 1:1 ratio of recruits and weapons. Normally it's to expensive to buy up enough rifles to use up all the recruits but once you have 10 econ it becomes free as long as you have enough officers..

You might have actually lowered scaling if you'd kept the deleted brigades. With your core units being 2k the older brigades would have reduced your average size and decreased scaling in the side battles. - I was really surprised to see how much you were willing to spend on veterans moving those units from 1.5k to 2k. Usually using mostly recruits is worth the stat drop so that money can be spent elsewhere.

@brianciotti72335 жыл бұрын
i thought the vetrine spending was good! if you do this right you can get your units to star 3 shortly by doing exactly what you're doing! and once you get them to star 3 you work on new units! that what i have done in my legendary campaign and its working really well keeping my units at 2100 just like your doing here at 2k... i delete units also that are not star1 or above... do help with scaling... Great win! 24 lb cannons will work great at thoroughfare gap.. i usually take 3 units of arty... also don't forget there is one unit of infantry that pops in the road at the top you can route this unit easily and then just shoot him dead. this adds nice casualties and xp .. how i do this is with one unit of infantry read to hit his left flank and then skirmishers ready to lead him to the corner where they just pick him apart... also having one skirmisher on the southern area fo the map to add flanking fire while your units pimple his in the river is nice! I take one unit of snipers with 600 range here and sit them at the top of the hill to attack units charging up the hill at the forest where my units are... usually this sniper has close to 1k kills or more... the 24lb arty each get close to 1500 to 2k the infantry also get 1500 kills usually... wear him down then sneek the skirmishers that kill that unit off around behind him and pinch him in the middle this battle you can wipe him out with very few casualties. Positioning flanking and patience... if he charges you tell the unit they are charging to fall back then immediately tell it to hold ground the charge will halt and then you are able to rotue him quickly. Good luck sir yoru using terrain and cover so much better now! and the positioning of your units is much better! keep up the great work loving this series!
