From what I've read it has some troubling bugs which effect the tactical control of your companies

Those bugs are vastly exadurated, they are there im not denying that, but they are not game breaking as some people might say, i still do think that Grand Tactition is the best civil war game out there, in fact i wouldn't even call it a game, id call it a Simulator.@@juliantheapostate8295

Ultimate got bad ui but GT got terrible also ai is really dum in that game. It got great depth and potential but it is not very playable state. Maybe some day. I hope they also find something more intetesting campaingn and war to fight. I respect GTs work and attitude still.

@@KA-jm2cz I agree. GT is made by like one guy. Well maybe since his first game “7 years war”, maybe he has gotten some help. It’s impressive for how small the developer is. But yes, hopefully some improvements in the future.

In fairness to burnside. He told Lincoln he wasn’t fit for command, and he immediately proved himself correct by launching a frontal assault against Lee’s entrenched and best troops. A interesting side light was written in the battle report by Gen. Rodes of Lee’s artillery about a young Sargent named Kirkland who came asking for permission to use white flag to cross the wall and give water to the wounded Union soldiers in front of the stone wall on Maryes heights. Unfortunately it was against the rules of war to do so. So Kirkland gathered canteens and risking his life leaped over the wall and walked to the nearest union soldier and gave him water. The Union lines erupted with cheers as did the confederate lines. Kirkland became known as the “angel of Fredericksburg”. Sadly he was killed at the battle of Chancellorsville. The statue of him at Fredericksburg was erected by the grand army of the Potomac society after the end of the war.

@@zaynevanday142 I will have to disagree with that statement. Here's why; most of those games are from the early 2000's. I would rather see games like Total War get invested into something like the American Civil War. The mod that goes along with Napoleon isn't very good. And not to mention, a lot of the games tend to die out pretty quickly, unfortunately. For example, Battle Cry of Freedom. If there just happened to be more Civil War games in this modern day in age, it'd be much better.

With the advance in tech a big company not making a large CW game with Total war type graphics is plain stupid. Sad that small studios are the only ones trying

Unfortunately, this game was ruined by the AI's auto-balancing system which rendered all strategic and tactical victories pointless. As the AI simply replenished itself artificially to negate any success you achieve. I'm actually keeping my fingers-crossed that they haven't ruined their new American Revolution Campaign in the same way.

Good to see cover is strong in this version. The main problem with this series is, when enemy routes, they keep coming back like 10 times, hope it has been fixed, they should disband and totally route at some point. Also it is good to see firearms really working in this version, before they were sometimes very ineffective.

They shatter if their casualties render them combat ineffective. But I don't mind them regrouping. If they rout once and don't come back then that hinders the player's army as well

it is a good civil war game but is not complete as it lacks campaign. The best US civil war game at date is "Grand tactician: Civil war: 1861-1865" But it's matter of taste, as grand tactician is a high detailed CAMPAIGN + BATTLES epic game.

Bring your reserves up and place them on top of your dug in units you will have to lock them in place so they don't move away you now have double the fire power

I love Gods and Generals. Movie gets a bad rep because it treats everyone like a human instead of cartoon villains. can't have that. This video convinced me to try the game.

Just finished it for the second time. Ended with like 225k lose conderate side (mine) and over 750k for the union. Imagine il that happened this hard irl lol

I fought this battle in the campaign as the Union and took the heights by concentrating a large amount of troops on the confederate right flank of the heights and crashing through dividing their line in two. Once I got behind the confederates on the heights, it was a Turkey shoot. Ended up pushing the confederates back to the River. The confederates on the extreme confederate right started to send troops in an attempt to outflank me but I set up a defensive line along the River which turned into another Turkey shoot for myself. Once I mopped up the confederate force on the heights I moved just about all of my units to the confederate right. By the end, although I had sustained a decent amount of casualties, I dealt way more casualties to the confederates than they dealt to me

The AI sucks on this game, there are terrain options that allows the Union troops to pick apart this Confederate defence. No human would attack this way.

The context we are discussing is a recorded game play through against an AI....not historical accuracy of any element of the game or the fact it allows the player to alter history which is I think one of its best features :o) The first comment was just funny but now it's getting a little bizarre.

Best civilwar game ever made was Grant, Lee and Sherman Civilwar generals 2 but good luck finding it and getting it to work on a new system. I had everybattle fought including small skirmishes like the one that actually took place a few days before 1st bullrun that i cant remember the name of any more with campaign for both sides and to top it all off it had a custom map maker so you could make your own battles. I need window 95 again and a copy cause now im sad lol

@zaynevanday142 no it only focused on one battle and in civil war generals 2 you could entrench and got bonuses or negatives due to terrain as well as cavalry with the option to fight mounted or dismounted

Loved that game. Had it twice and last had it for Windows XP. Sorry did not watch this video as I never play as a Confederate. Someone mentioned how the AI does not take into account your victories and replenishes the AI ranks as if the previous battle never happened.

@Smenkhaare yea the ai never takes battle loss, during the bull run battle I pretty much destroyed the entire union army and they was right back full strength next battle. I feel like there are things they could have done better but when the market for civil war games is what it is you can't be too picky and it's a lot of fun and has its own stuff that makes it a bit different but I would try and catch it on sale or something as it's kinda high priced for what's actually in it but I'm older to so to me this should be like a 15 dollar game but I get US currency just keeps getting more and more worthless soon a single coke will be 5 bucks at this rate
