Massey Ferguson 255, It Started!!!

Swapped the pump with a brand new one and the tractor didnt start even though I used starting fluid on the air intake the tractor didnt even try to start. I also discovered when I took off the plate on the back of the chamber with the 4 bolts that there was an exesive amount of rust both on the plate and on the mounting part of the pump with the three screws.

Hi great video, thank you. I have a MF255 and I replaced the CAV injection pump but there is not a lot of pressure on the injector lines and the pump is leaking diesel from the mounting point in to the oil. Any idea or suggestions are appreciated....

That’s a tough one. Maybe low compression on cylinders and diesel is getting by rings on piston? I’m not sure but that seems like one of the only ways I could see diesel getting into the oil. Good luck on your project!!!

@@ProductiveLiving20 that makes sense since the tractor was sitting and not starting for a long period of time, I am about to swap to a brand new pump again for one last time. I also noticed you used starting fluid to start the tractor. What kind? Thank you

In what position should the accelerator lever needs to be to start the tractor? all the way up or down? Thanks a lot for your help.

I start mine idled all the way down

All the way up on mine is full throttle. It would not start in that position for me either.

Hey how is it going, just checking in again. With two concerns this time, I hope you can help me. The first one is how much transmission fluid to add? The hydraulics weren’t moving so I added a quart if fluid and started moving buy I wonder if I need to add more. And the second is how much air do the front and rear tires take? Thank you

There’s a dipstick for the transmission on the passenger’s side of the tractor by the seat in the floor to measure the fluid level. On Tire pressure I would just sit it up until it’s not buckled probably 15-20 psi.

Was there anything you needed to do special for timing the new pump? I need to replace mine as well - I keep hearing that timing can be a bear.

I’m not sure I may have just gotten lucky. 😂. I installed it and primed it and it worked.

Hi, I was just thinking what are the chances that my tractor start if there is a coolant leak into the oil? I am suspecting the water pump may be leaking, I hope and nothing worse than that.

I would check the oil level and if it’s over full or you can see coolant on dipstick or if oil is milky then there is definitely a bigger issue
