Massey VS Kubota, when I decided to trade tractors, the decision was very hard. Come along as I tell you the reasons, I chose Massey Ferguson 1835e. #masseyferguson #kubota #1835e #l3302

I grew up with Massey Ferguson and they all have been great tractors. I purchased a 593 4wheel drive and had a clutch go out pretty quick after purchase, dealer took care of everything and haven’t had an issue since.

@@jonsolomon4814 that’s awesome! My papaw on my dads side had a 235 Massey and papaw on my moms side had a ford 1225 I think. Both were great tractors and were used for many years. The ford had a bad transmission so I told my papaw that since I planned on living near him that I would buy a tractor instead of him having to. Probably the best purchase I’ve ever made was a tractor. So many jobs you can do with one.

I like my old Masseys with the Perkins diesel. But if you have "live" power you should have a dual clutch so if you push the clutch part way down the wheels will stop but the PTO will continue running. On "live" power if you push the clutch all the way down the wheels and the PTO will stop. You should be able to push the clutch all the way down, engage the PTO then when you slowly let out on the clutch the PTO will start spinning and about half way up the clutch pedal travel the wheels will engage. That being said, my Ford 4000SU has independent power take off and it is very, very nice. To me the advantage to live PTO is you can control the PTO engagement with the clutch pedal and with independent PTO you get what you get when you turn it on. Either way, live or independent is way better than the old PTO system like on my Allis B and Deere 40 where you can't stop the tractor without stopping the PTO

@@rtundlt1 thank you for the comment and the very informative information. I didn’t know that about the live pto, but yes both live and independent are much better than the old style! Even with knowing that about the live pto, I still think I like independent better. The 235 Massey we used to have was Perkins and I agree was a great tractor!

I appreciate your comparison, and sorry to hear you had issues with your old tractor.... that can be very stressful.... I recently bought my first ever tractor. I looked and test drove the red ones, blue ones, green ones, orange.... and they all seemed like good machines, but I ended up buying the MF 1840e... I chose the Massey over the others for 2 reasons... 1) location of the fuel fill(Massey is located at about thigh height and the others were all shoulder height), and 2) location of the shuttle shifter. The Massey feels to me like an old forklift, where I can operate the shuttle lever between the middle and ring fingers of my left hand while keeping my thumb on the steering wheel, and my right hand is free to operate the loader, 3pt and so on... with the others I had to take my left hand off the wheel to shift F/R... Now that I've had my MF for a couple months I'm sure I made the right choice... but I do occasionally think, "ya know, that hydrostat sure would be handy right about now" but then I think "oh yea, I didn't get the hydrostat cause most of my hours are mowing, not loading pallets...." so far,(I'm just over 30hrs) I love my MF. Side note, if you want to add rear remotes on an 1840e, the valves come out to just under $3k and took a lil over a month from when I ordered them till they came in.

That’s awesome!! I knew I had forgot something about the Massey and that was the fuel tank, I love not having to get my fuel jug on top of the hood. I feel the same way, I’m certain I made the right choice for me for what I do this tractor is more than enough. Glad to hear your loving the Massey! I have just over 40 hrs on mine.

I will say having 2 bx Kubota tractors I love their subcompact tractors but not a fan of the L series I found them too light and narrow for my liking. I have a 70hp 5570 Mahindra I love but I totally agree about the dealership and when I first got it they were decent but don't even stock filters and not very helpful the last couple times I've inquired about getting something serviced. I don't know what brand I'd go with in a what I considered medium size tractor 30-40hp range. They have several made by different companies ranging from tym to Mitsubishi in their lineup and went with the one I did because it was a true Mahindra design and build. Kubota also has way more emissions and issues with Regen than Mahindra doesn't.

I’ll agree with you on the bx series. They are a sweet machine, I’ve used my neighbors bx23s several times and love operating it! Mahindra would have probably been my second choice for a tractor if I couldn’t have found what I was looking for in Massey. From what I read and the videos I’ve watched looks like they are built like a tank! Dealers do make owning a tractor either a nightmare or a pleasure. I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your dealer. How far away is the next mahindra dealer? It could be worth the drive to them if they treat you right on service. Thanks for the comment!

You made a good choice. I have had several tractor brands and we are very happy with our MF 245 and our loader tractor the 4707.

I’ve only owned Kubota and Massey, and since trading for the Massey I’ve realized what I was missing by not choosing Massey in the first place. Love this tractor. My papaw had a Massey 235 and that tractor was a work horse.

Good video . I looked at MF and Kubota both and ended get and LS MT226HE from the MF dealer . And you are so right a good dealer is a big thing .

Thanks, I’ve heard some good things about ls tractors. Unfortunately the dealer for ls in my area wasn’t someone I could work with. How do you like it?

@@KM-vc2yp your welcome! One thing I forgot to mention was the Massey has ground level fueling, whereas the kubota l series has fueling on the hood. Thanks for watching!

I'm really looking hard at the 1835 M. I do not want a hydro. I'm sixty years old and grew up on torqey gears tractors. The power shuttle will make loader work a little easier. I've got to Massey dealers about one hour away in different directions. Only dealers near me are green , orange and pink.
@ChestnutMountainHomestead17 күн бұрын
I wanted to keep my payments about the same or I would have got the m hands down. Premium features on that tractor. I’m with you, I don’t like hydro but they are nice for loader work. My Massey dealer is about a hour away from me as well. Power shuttle is an awesome thing!

Btw, MF has yellow rubber grips that fit on the metal ends of the quick attach handles.

You only have to come to a complete stop on a manual KUBOTA if you DID NOT get one with synchronized gears. They are available but are more money.. Once you get used to them you can shift without stopping or grinding gear without syncro. I had a L3800 standard for 12 yrs.
@ChestnutMountainHomestead15 күн бұрын
@@waynederby4684 yea I knew that you could get them with synchro gears, didn’t realize you could shift a non synchro without being stopped, everytime I tried I grinded the gears bad. Thanks for the comment!

@@ChestnutMountainHomestead It is something that you learn after years of having one and plenty of grinding some gears in the learning process. Don't expect to do it right away. Some do it bu double clutching and some do a speed shift and some never get it.

Interesting.... I had no idea that the Kubota manual transmissions differed so much between models. My Kubota MX4700 manual transmission operates almost exactly as you described your Massey, except it is synchronized between 3rd and 4th gear. As you learned, your Kubota dealer did you no favors by allowing you out the door with a pin-on front loader system. Live and learn... I made the mistake of buying only a 2wd tractor the first time. Lesson learned! Good luck, and enjoy your new machine.

I know, when I really started digging into the different types of manual in tractors it blowed my mind! Yea they had a back order on quick attach loaders when I was getting my kubota so I let them just slap a pin on onto the tractor. Live and learn. Thanks for the comment!! Hope you’re enjoying the mx4700, they are nice tractors!

Who makes that Massey?
@ChestnutMountainHomestead6 күн бұрын
Well it’s a Massey Ferguson which is the company, but they are a branch of AGCO. The power train is built by iseki which is a Japan company I believe. I bought this one from East Tennessee atv and tractor.
