*MASSIVE* ALLIGATOR caught on Rod and Reel! Catch Clean and Cook!

The StanzFam heads to Lake Okeechobee to participate in a 2020 Gator Hunt. Our friend Jackie had a couple tags from the State's Alligator Hunting Program so we joined up with her, BlueGabe and Brad from G3 Outfitters. Only 7000 permits are given out each year, consisting of 2 tags for each permit, and you can hunt in a specific zone if you are drawn in the lottery system. FWC estimates the population is 1.3 million alligators in the State of Florida, so it's really just a small percentage that will be harvested recreationally in the season. Anyhow after playing a couple jokes on each other we find a few alligators and set our baits out. All of a sudden the opposite direction a giant alligator surfaces and Brad makes an unbelievable cast and hooks this giant! It's a group effort with everyone involved but you'll have to watch the video to see what happens!

Another awesome video....If y’all cook gator again, there’s a couple extra preparation step you can take that will make a world of difference in the taste and texture of the alligator meat. When preparing the meat cut off absolutely every peace of fat that you can. Also cut off all silver skin. Then tenderize with the meat using whatever method you choose; I like a tenderizing hammer. Once the meat is tenderized, marinate it in hole milk or butter milk four a few hours. Then remove drain off excess marinate and batter favorite way for frying. This truly makes a world of difference. I’m a resident of extreme southeastern Louisiana and have cooked lots of gator meat in my 52 years. Hope this helps for your next fry.

Thanks! Vic mentioned soaking in butter milk but it was a timing issue with cooking it. Most of it was good since it went through the cuber but I’ll definitely trim the silver skin and fat off even more next time. And maybe tenderize part of it. Thanks 👊🏻👊🏻

Nick, cut it thinner. Won't be as chewy for sure. If you make chunks, depending on how long you cook it, it may dry out as well. Sliced thin and fried or a sauce piquant best way to have it!

I haven’t had gator in a long time. When I was young I remember trying some tail meat that was deep fired. Tastes like chicken with the consistency of shrimp is how I recall it. Throw in some tartar sauce. :-)
