Massive Bee Hive Found Under Her Home

It's a great day and I thank you for allowing me to share a bit of my fun with you.
In this episode, I traveled to New Orleans LA to spend a few days with a great friend and awesome bee removal specialist @JPthebeeman
We had the pleasure to remove a colony of wild honey bees from under a mobile home. It was unclear how long they had been there but based on the size and amount of that golden sweet honey, it was well over a year.
During the removal, things got a little chaotic. Nectar flow was about over with in that area and smell of the honey was flowing through the air. Another colony near by must have smelled it and they came running for a chance to get some free food. That didnt slow us down though. Situations like this can become dangerous quickly for us. The main colony we are removing can get very defensive and try to protect their stores. In turn, can put us in a very bad place to be. Thankfully, in all the craziness, things stayed safe for us and all we could do was leave a box there to collect them after dark when things calmed down.

Why are the last slabs of honey comb dark like that? The first ones were much lighter in color.

From what I’ve seen, it’s the age of the comb. The darkest ones have had lots of dirty little feet walking over them for multiple seasons. The newest combs are bright white.

The vac does not kill them. But a shop vac would. Do not use a shop vac

Yappy, what happens if the queen of the hive is injured, killed or you simply can not find her? Does the whole hive die?

I could eventually die off. If it happens in one of my hives, I can give them the resources to make a new queen, add a queen or combine those bees to another hive and they will boost that hive.

To my surprise...we had a bee in the house,, my daughter said it was right next to her near the dining room window, I had removed the screen on the other side of the window so I opened the window and used a napkin to lift up the bee and told her to go find thehive and she flew away...

They will acclimate after a short time.

So what's the verdict? Both queens where from that hive or the robbing was so bad another colony brought there queen to see the action 😉

In my opinion, both queens were from the same hive. It's a known situation for a colony to have a 2nd daughter queen sometimes if the older queen is going to be replaced (theory) . I've seen two queen hives a few times and it is an amazing sight when I do.
