Awesome Top Bar beehive surprise when we got into this one. The plan was to move a late year swarm into a nuc with drawn comb and feed them to give a chance of survival. The southeast in Alabama has been dry of honey flow since June and no fall rain has hurt honey bees greatly. Our best guess is that these bees may have been from trees being cut down in the area and had time to rob out their honey before they left. That would explain the amount of comb they had built. Thank you Darryl Patton aka The Southern Herbalist for calling to come play with these bees. They were great and the view was beautiful.
Yappybeeman is an Alabama Beekeeper Association member and preforms live honey bee removals in Alabama. Yappy has been relocating honey bees for over 8 years and preformed over 500 live removals. With the help and teachings of his great friend Jp The Beeman, He has learned how to remove bees live and relocate them so they can continue to thrive and make honey.

Marshmallows is a sugar-based candy or type of sweets that in its modern form typically consists of sugar, water and gelatin whipped to a squishy consistency, molded into small cylindrical pieces, and coated with corn starch. Every thing bees loves cheers

That was definitely a pleasant surprise! Cool he ended up with a swarm moving in, especially since it had previously been a dead out.

Good video, mate. About all I would do with them is clean up the wax moth, just like you did, and then feed, feed, feed.

Some bee's almost want to attack when your scraping next to them. You got lucky with a gentle swarm

bobsskiff , the haze over the mountains is from the woods fires in GA and Tn. Otherwise that would have been clear forever. He has a great view up there for sure.

Hey Yappy. 12 year beeman here.I have theory I developed over the years.I beleave my bees treat them selves if they have a large enough variety of plants around. Same as animals eating certain things like grass etc. Checking hive I can smell it and taste different things.I have been treatment free for 12 years now.Seldom have I lost a hive and it get up to sometime 15 or 20 degrees in winter. I bet Mr.Patton would have some thoughts about my theory.

Hey Yap, this is cool to see... how's this hive doing? I'm getting a top bar hive soon & wondering how this one did after you helped clean up this one.
@YappyBeeman

Sansa Stark ,they did great. Mild winter and early spring was a major factor in that.

Now that we're into the end of spring, how did this hive fair?
@YappyBeeman
@YappyBeeman 7 жыл бұрын
Jacob Sorensen , I haven't been up that way in a while to check on them. Hopefully they did well. Pollen was the biggest thing they would have had to overcome not having much of over winter to make it. They looked like a strong bunch so maybe all did well.

Yappy stop by Lowees or home Depot and get you a masonary margin trowel to clean the wax off the wood, It would work really well to remove the cones

Are bees normally that chill when you clean? Or were these just really relaxed?
@YappyBeeman
@YappyBeeman 7 жыл бұрын
ErdriedDeirdre , the bees I normally deal with in the Southeast , USA are generally chilled out like this. You can see in all my videos I almost never wear a suit. There is alot to be said about how you handle the bees as to how they will react.

Pop's Shack Why would OSHA be on their case? OSHA's mission is to "assure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance" That doesn't quite apply to people working for their self.

426 SUPER BEE , yes it was. We finally figured that after it swarmed the queen didn't make it back from mating flight and died out. Hence the damage. But the new ones are doing great so far. Checked them a few days ago.

A moth will lay thousands of eggs everywhere. You now the stuff you use in the garden for cabbage? Active ingredient is not poison but a spore.Was told it worked years ago and does not harm the bees or honey.I think the name was thuracide. I have spayed some really nasty boxes and it works great.It kills the worms digestive system when they hatch they wont eat they just die. I do natural farming and that is about the only thing I ever use in my garden.

@@YappyBeeman I'm just getting into this. Check out Taras Kul here on YT. I'm starting out from scratch, and taking in all and any information. Liked and saved the DIY swarm traps you made. I could use any and all subs for my future videos. I hate to beg, but I'm up to a whole 20 subs. Trying to come up with a clever channel name, but I'm drawing a blank for the moment. Any suggestions as far as sponsors or leads would make the YT community one more educator stronger. Thanks for what you already do.
