Off Kilter? I finally found a like minded fisherman. Love the no nonsense way you get it done. Love watching you catch fish with your boys. Making great memories for them and yourself. Not a bad song writer too. Press on. If I’m ever up in NC I’ll find ya. 😬👍🏻

awesome fish! I love it when you get on a good black drum bite. about the hardest straight up and down pulling fish. you're right about the rod and tackle. but id rather have a little lighter rod. to enjoy the fight. Makes for a more fun fight for all the average fish. Biggest one I've caught was like 27' was fuuunn on a medium action 3000 series spinning rod and reel.

Most fun I have had fishing in a long, long time.. and I fish a lot 😁

It's great to see how good the fishing can be 2 miles from my place while all these big boats launch nearby and go away for miles and miles to fish. How big does a black drum need to be for you to start letting them go?
@offkilterfishing2 жыл бұрын
You are allowed to keep ten fish with only one being over 25". The one that I kept was 23" and is about as big as I like to keep. They start to get a little strong tasting as they get big, but are a very mild tasting fish when they are small.
@FrankLadd2 жыл бұрын
@@offkilterfishing I don't fish that far away but the ones I see are smaller. Thanks for letting me know a good cut off for best taste.

Heck Yeah! You definitely put the time / work in and were rewarded! Congrats on a great day and on catching your PB! Did I see you snag one of those drum with a bottom sweeper jig??
@offkilterfishing2 жыл бұрын
I caught two on bottom sweepers, the hook strength has impressed me. Most of the knock off bottom sweeper jigs have weak hooks that bend out.

Killer stuff man. I've dropped whole blue crabs so many times and never had one get ate yet.
@offkilterfishing2 жыл бұрын
Try trimming the spines and some of the legs to release some scent into the water, helps to keep the black sea bass off if you don't expose too much of the innards.

@@offkilterfishing This is Steve man. David's friend. That's exactly what I've always done but the only thing that's ever ate a whole one for me was a giant sea turtle 😄

Very nice! What lb rating Trevala was that? I have a 30-80, 50-100, and the 65-200 meat stick. The strongest reels I have are an Avet SX, MXL, and I just bought a squall 15 casting special. I used to have the heavy duty penn torque 200 and I wish I never sold it.
@offkilterfishing2 жыл бұрын
It is the 65-200, I have had it since 2011 and it has proven itself time and again.
@hunter9232 жыл бұрын
Why do you smash the sea urchins and how much do you smash them to keep on the hook thanks
@offkilterfishing2 жыл бұрын
Busting the shell puts scent into the water and makes the bait smaller so you can catch the fish easier. Trim the spines, roll it over and tap gently with a wood block. Hook through the cylindrical structure called "aristotle's lantern", from the bottom to the top. Good Luck!
@j.w.18612 жыл бұрын
Can you explain how you tie the boat up to fish like that. Thanks
@offkilterfishing2 жыл бұрын
I try to tie long lines at points that are away from the structure so you are not banging up against it. I always use bungees to put some stretch in the lines. Use different cleats to move your boat closer or further from the bridge. Good Luck.
@j.w.18612 жыл бұрын
@@offkilterfishing thank you for the reply I never thought about the bungees. Again thank you

Looks like you needed some help with a couple of them. Oh by the way where do you go to catch your fiddler crabs ...
@offkilterfishing2 жыл бұрын
I could have used a mate with net skills for sure. I like to use the red jointed fiddler crabs because they are the largest species of fiddler crab in NC and they are found marsh grass that has dark mud. Sand fiddlers are tiny and live in sandy areas. If you find a pile of them, keep it a secret and don't over harvest. Good Luck!
