Hey Bruce, when I was about 10 yrs old they straightened the road in front of our house. The hill, which was quite large, became the source of the crushed stone for the road base. A crushing plant was set up and the work began. They were using a D9 Cat for removing the overburden and then assisting the crushing operation. Every morning is hear the pony motor start up and then the big diesel. I'd sit on the edge to the hill side and watch the progress. One day the D9 operator stopped the machine and waved me over. He helped me up on the dozer and we made a couple passes moving material. 63 years later I still remember that experience well. Thanks for the great videos 😊

What a trooper. You're still in recovery but find the energy to go and help others. At least it was well worthwhile. Recovering three tractor rigs in one mission. All in all that must have been a full day's work. A very successful mission Bruce and being the gentleman you really are, you found the time to thank the cameraman and the farmers you were recovering for helping you. Let's face it it's not a situation where you could phone a recovery company to save the day. Don't know if you like a beer but you deserve freebies for life after this mission.

Another great show. Yes, please, on doing a show on the grader. I've been on and worked farms and ranches for most of my 56 year's and love when they modify machine's because it's what they could afford. Those old guys are part engineer. I knew one that took a model A Ford and used the frame engine and transmission and used it to power a chopper mixer for pig feed. I last saw him run it in 1990. It fired right up. He since passed away. Old Shelby Cook has long since passed. I bet that old rig would still run if he was around.

Your a gem Bruce . Safety wasnt even a word when i did my time on tractors. Now i think of it all the time. It's not about me getting hurt, it's the others that you hurt. I'm so glad you thought about the job in a safe way. Regards,Tim.

Very nice work sir. I grew up on a farm and know how bad a tractor can get stuck. A dozer could also get badly stuck, but is very strong and tracks is just great for grip.

Grader video would be great. My dad grew up operating TD35s and 40s. I grew up with D8s. Cable blade and rippers, pilot motor start. 6sp manual. Dams, fences, scrub pulling. We used 5th and 6th gears, but throttled down low, no torque but good for walking long runs. They would rattle and shake that bad in 6th at med rpm you struggled to stay on the machine, let alone if you hit a hole or rocked on a log, would catapult you into the cluch levers, and crack some ribs. We rotated tracks to wear the pins on both sides.

Thank you Bruce; one of the best yet. Your cameraman/person is very, very good, as is the editing. Almost pro documentary level. It is wonderful to see old machinery prove its worth and this old Cat really showed its value. The build fidelity of machines from the late 50s thru 80s was pretty high, simple but durable.

Hi Bruce, good to hear the surgery has gone well, just be carefull to let your eye recover fully. Love this video, it brought back a few memories. Back in 1963 when I was 15 and just started my apprenticeship, I was buying 1 spanner a week, and the very first one I got was 1/4 whit. It was a Britool and I've still got it🙂. I also like how you use tyres on the straps and chains for safety in case any of them break under load. The number of young guys I see today who have no idea of safety when towing or winching, I've seen both chains and cables break under heavy load and they've had enough energy to take someones head off. They can call me an old know-it-all fart if they want but, after a lifetime in engineering I've still got both eyes and all my fingers. Keep yourself well and thanks for your videos. A video of the Grader would be interesting.

Bruce, growing up here in Texas we had two Fiat Allis dozers, a 16B and an 11B. They were good machines and moved a Lot of dirt. I had to come back and edit this comment because it posted 20B instead of 16B. While I'm editing I'll add to my coment.. The 16B we bought out of Alaska thru an auction. When the dozer showed up, it had a complete brand new undercarriage under it including new rails and swamp pads. Apparently the auction company had a machinery service in Alaska install all the new workings and the machinery company installed it on the WRONG machine but it had already came all the way from Alaska to Texas..and we only paid $25,000 for the dozer at auction. The whole undercarriage was a bonus! I don't even think the auction fee paid for that mistake.

Check hydraulic oil level when the rams/ pistons are in the up position. If you look at the dipstick while the hydraulics are in the lower position, It will give you a high reading. This is because the oil has been retracted from the hydraulic cylinders and back to sump. Which will raise level you are reading on the dipstick . I learned this from a 1969 Ford 3000 diesel tractors owners manual
@TINRFD4 ай бұрын
That would be true, if these were single-acting cylinders like the one in most (older) tractors, were the hydraulic lifting arms can only lift, but not push down. The dozer has double-acting cylinders, which can push/pull in both ways. When the piston is retracted into the cylinder the piston-rod displaces oil, so there is more oil in the sump. It´s the other way around in this case.

For those viewers who aren't familiar with th phrase " mind your p's and q's " , the phrase dates back to the 1700s , maybe further . The pub/tavern owner would say this to the maids serving , and means pints and quarts . In others words keep track of how many ales were given to a customer . Cheers and 🍺🍺🍺🍺
