A couple years ago Rudy and Trevor were slightly shy unknown people in an unknown area, now they're world famous, self confident and comfortable enough to be goofy on camera. I've loved watching the change and get a kick out of their antics.

I'd have to agree. I work with "Aggressive Fabricators" Matt is cool, calm, and collected in his delivery, compared to most of the azz hats I deal with. Of course, that attitude does wear off on a guy. So, I'm guilty of it too.

Re: Radiator Fans, I went thru every fan mod and combination possible trying to keep a 345 V8 Scout cool in Arizona. Matt is absolutely right the water pump driven stocker will haul more air than anything with one caveat: It must have a shroud. And the fan must stick out the back of the shroud about 1/2 to 3/4 inch. Set up like that, the air coming thru the shroud strangely does not blow straight back across the engine but rather exits at 90 degrees from the edge of the shroud, or right straight off the ends of the fan blade.

The other thing that most have Never and Will Never experience is an engine that can stay together doing "5,000rpm all day long" most engines scatter after the first 10 minutes at that speed! Problem is, the internet is full of people who offer advice based on the fact that they've just bought a thing, owned it for two weeks, and aren't prepared to ackowledge the possibility that they could have bought something better OR they've been given a thing for free and they want you to go and buy that thing. In that environment, it's often hard to accept that somebody has actually put in the work, tried all the alternatives and is offering advice because they KNOW, for certain, that it's correct.

There's also a lot of people that like to kiss the backside of someone they will likely never meet. Many people, including some that have commented on these videos, have actually tried. They have actually found something that works well and they are trying to pass along that advice. Then you have other people that are being stubborn, that's right, not aggressive but stubborn, and ignoring that advice. The fact that Matt is saying that he's tried the best there is while referring to a SPAL e-fan shows me that he hasn't tried much. OEMs have produced much better electric fans that could easily be adapted to work in this rig, he's already adapting parts from other vehicles, a fan wouldn't be difficult. There are options from all of the big three (Chevy, Ford, and Dodge) that flow way more than that SPAL and some in the same range as the claimed "9000 cfm" (

You need to watch out with Amazon though. I bought some 1/4 inch fuel hose to use for a diff breather and the outside is already cracking after two years. It doesn't see any sun so it's not a UV problem. It's just junk hose. There is sometimes a reason why things are cheaper on Amazon and it isn't the economics of scale. You think you are just buying a piece of hose or some split loom but with polymers and rubber the composition really matters.

I have a couple of typical "Hawaiian" shirts--also called "aloha" shirts--[not a native Hawaiian, though we did live there for 6 years]. Don't think I've ever worn a Hawaiian shirt on an airplane. Also, it's common for men to wear Hawaiian/aloha shirts in a professional setting where mainland folks might wear a coat & tie. Almost no one male in Hawaii will wear a tie, even to a funeral--it's all aloha wear.

If you add a extra cooling tank, like a air tank from a simi. It will give you up to 8 gallons of extra coolant plumb in into heater lines so all coolent flows through rad. It’s not an overflow tank. We do this our simi trucks here in Kansas, rad fan only comes on for A/C .

Just think about it, you have an engine powering a fan, or at best a little 550 brushless motor. Which do you think has more power, and more power means the ability to push more air.

To be fair that electric fan had a way smaller motor than other models. But clutch fans are popular on certain vehicles for very good reasons, and yes, horsepower.

My '00 WJ has the clutch-based cooling fan, and all you need to do to it when towing in a hot climate, is to change the 195 degree thermostat, to a 170 degree thermostat. When that clutch kicks in, dang thing sounds like an airplane trying to take off haha. Those inline 6 engines are great.

Your practical information is really great! I've put an electric fan on every vehicle I've owned (that didn't come with one) because of the HP leach. Never had an issue in southern California heat. But it makes sense if you're running high RPM, dragging vehicles at low speeds. Probably why big rigs and tractors (that I've seen) don't use electric fans.

Mill out a larger water pump pulley. That will slow the water pump down at higher speeds. It will also allow the coolant to spend more time in the radiator cooling it down more.
