Massive Drawing Eraser Review!!

The Vanish Eraser sold by Jerry's Artarama has been my exclusive FAVE for over a decade. BUT it's hard to get if you're not in the U.S.!!! So I'm trying to discover a drawing eraser that's equally awesome, or even BETTER!! Today, after testing over 16 - I FINALLY FOUND ONE!!! Staedtler Mars Plastic paired up with the Tombow pen erasers, and a soft Kneaded are the best - IMHO - Each have different uses and bring something to the page.

Very interesting outcome, Karen! Thank you! And thank you for giving descriptions as you erased because from my computer screen, some of the erasing looked way better than you were discribing OR not any different than you were describing. So, your narrating is very key coupled with the visual. Thanks! I just order a bunch of Vanishing eraser now, from Jerry's when I make an order for other supplies, rather than getting them from Amazon.

i use a Staedtler eraser for heavy duty erasing. i love those mono zero pencil style erasers. i use them sketching as much as i use graphite or charcoal pencils. my favorite is the gum eraser though... i use general's. they are nice and soft. i find Faber Castell gum erasers a bit too stiff for my liking. gum erasers are also therapeutic, like a stress ball. i am constantly sculpting it into different shapes while i'm watching KZbin tutorials. its also great for sticking on the end of a yard stick to pick small things up off the floor instead of bending over to pick it up! 😁 i am in Canada, so shopping at Blick or Jerry's isn't a great option because of shipping costs. good and useful review!!!

Yep - that’s the only one I use! But I’m so excited to be able to recommend and alternative!! They are very hard to get - especially overseas and I have a TON of students in the UK, Canada and Australia and I’ve never been able to give them a decent recommendation before! So I’m so relieved.

Sometimes you want to pick up the graphite and not mess up your ink. I love those plastic erasers for that.

I don’t have a wide experience Because I I have t been drawing for that long. I was wondering if you have tested the eraser on the Blackwing pencils. I like it a lot. The black one I find the best, the white is good to. Anyone know if you can get these in a larger size? Thanks Karen for all your hard work with the erasers. Very interesting. I’m surprised at how many errors there are.

I have a blackwing obsession and I agree, the erasers are so awesome!! I now have sooooo many erasers I’m not going to buy the big version - I have enough to last a lifetime 🤦‍♀️😂

I have to ask, is there an odor with the Staedtler eraser? I finally got my hands on a Vanish and noticed it has an unusual odor. lol I do love the way the Vanish performs. Glad to finally have one Thank you Karen for your very informative investigation!

I am not at all sensitive to smells (for example I’ve used hundreds of Vanish erasers over the years and never noticed anything?) so I may not be a good person to ask! All erasers smell kinda rubbery to me, but nothing crazy 🤷‍♀️
