We're not going to lie, we felt a little nervous watching the carving phase! Spilled ink doesn't scare us one bit, though, as many gallons of gesso we've cleaned up in our stores. We're sincerely impressed with the results you got! If this fun eraser craft makes you want to try something on a larger scale, there are pink rubber blocks made expressly for carving, that work pretty much like this. Another variation that could make things interesting: color the carving surface with a black marker so you can see the light lines appear in real time!

I imagine my fingers looking as if they were attacked by a cheese grater if I tried this. Like the strips of eraser bits that look a bit like grated carrots. You're so brave! It IS really satisfying seeing the thin strip of eraser bits slowly sliced away in neat little strips, but I do not think mine would look like that. More likely, I and all the tools and everything around me would be "painted" in my blood. 😁Your stamps turned out super cute! ❤💯

Great idea ! I don’t have erasers I don’t use, but some thic Lino trash pieces. Maybe that will work to. That paint brush is so cute, and I love the tip about sketching the words on paper and ‘printing’ them on the eraser to have them in the other direction ! Have a nice day

Linoleum blocks were once Navy ship linoleum floor pieces after WWII. Hard to carve but worth the effort. Real task is to carve letters . You use carbon paper or write the word and pencil shading on the back and trace the letters.

I don't know if anyone said, but some safety thoughts! I've done some whittling in the past, and I always use a cut resistant glove for my non-knife holding hand. However, you can even just getting those self adhesive bandage wraps you can use for holding gauze on cuts and stuff and wrap them a few times around certain fingers. I would use the glove on my non-knife hand, and then the hand holding the knife I'd wrap the wrap around my thumb and between my first and second knuckle on my forefinger. No matter how careful you are, mistakes will happen so be careful with your fingers!

I have used different markers as an ink by scribbling on a glass desktop (a mirror would work also), then wiping up the color with the stamp. This had a nice effect of being able to get different shades of color.

Scanned and didn’t see anyone mention this but I do stamping to make cards and stuff and the way I ink a stamp would be to flip the stamp face up and sort of tap or blot the ink on top. This lets you cover as big a stamp as you have!

I just thought of something. Instead of carving into the eraser, try drawing on top of it with glue. When the glue dries, the lines will be raised, and that image will be transferred onto the paper. I don't know if you could use a toothpick as your brush, or which type of glue will work the best, But this just popped into my head while watching you draw your coffee cup. Yay, art!

You could probably make a removable handle by using a cork, hot glue, and some sort of flexible material to latch on. Then you can add it to whichever stamp you're using at a given time
@nefertitimontoya

If you carve little notches into the sides of the stamp, you could probably design the latch mechanism to slot into those

Mira, there's a tool thing (I forget what it's called) which is basically two pieces of wood at a right angle - like the corner of a picture frame - with a flat base beneath. It means you can wedge your eraser or lino block into the corner so it won't slide or move while you are cutting, making it safer. I think it has little silicone feets on the underneath so it sticks to the desk/table. You should definitely get one if you are enjoying this so you don't end up with a cutting tool stuck in your hand (trust me, it stinkin' hurts!! 🤣) Love the adorable stamps! I have circular stamp sized lino pieces which I got with a second set of cutting tools which would be perfect for this. I also have about a million erasers from Scrawlrboxes and Artful boxes which now have a use! Thanks! Have a great day/evening etc (not sure of the time difference between you and the UK but it's currently 11.30pm so I shall wish you a goodnight! 🙋🏻‍♀️🌃🕦🌛⭐️🌠🌌🛌

If you want a cheaper experience with stamp making then you can definitely use erasers. But, the problem is about the size you want to carve. You won't be able to find a big sized eraser, but you can use the same sized eraser that Mira used. Today i tried this out, and not gonna lie it was super fun to carve out my own art on erasers. I'm sure this will be easy for you rather than buying normal ones.
