How often we've all heard the age old comment; "I've been doing it this way for nigh on fifty years and I'm doin just fine" That kind of comment got several people kicked out of the military. Of course they were not just doing it unsafe, they were doing it wrong, and cutting corners. Not quite the same but similar.

Looking around the shop, I see Ed's homemade door off the Nugget. Ed's inspecting poster, and various wall hangers, that take me back to previous episodes. I'm thinking if Ed was 20 or 30 yrs younger, he would be more than just an inspector! Lizzie, her tour reminded me when I was there, early summer, she had just waxed the Banana. She has to be very proud of all the welding she has done on the wrecker. Matt, for giving Lizzie the opportunity to learn skills that will serve her a lifetime. MAYBE, her own channel one day.Tom Tom a welcome addition, many skills that he is adding to the team. Lizzie will learn more welding skills from him. The gears in the rear-end are low enough, you could walk alongside while operating. Thank you Matt and the entire team for sharing with the viewers. MERRY CHRISTMAS! This. The lack of people who understand how important this is is scary. Heavy load and back bending are a sure no go. If possible even light loads should be avoided handling this way because it's hard to gauge where does the line go from. Muscles keep the skeleton together so use them.

I've used torque sticks (torque limiting socket extensions) for years with my impact to tighten lugnuts, but I use the 110lb for every car, Jeep, and truck up to a 2500, and after checking a few vehicles with a torque wrench and seeing they were always perfect or very close to being, now I never go behind them with a torque wrench, and for years now I have never had any issues. The thing about them is, if you don't have a decent impact backed by a compressor that produces the correct air pressure, then they can be off. So it's best for people to check some of the first ones they use their personal impact, "torque sticks", and compressor to install to make sure they torqued them correctly.

@@thomaswarner8854 I have had the same thoughts but from what little I know and have seen, creating a vehicle, like they're doing, takes an absolute TON of assembly- fabrication- disassembly- fabrication- reassembly- etc. When all the Welding, Fabrication, and Assembling is finally done and you have everything the way you want it only then do you disassemble the entire thing and Paint/Powdercoat/whatever, and then do the last and final assembly. The last thing you would ever want to do is ruin your freshly done up surface coating because something had to be modified, removed, or added. It's a daunting process but 100% worth it in the end.

I took auto shop in HS more than 57 years ago. That alone saved me $1,000s in not having unnecessary repairs done on my cars and most of the repairs I could do myself in those days. I remember to this day a couple of tidbits of info. One is that differential gear ratios and manual transmisson gearing are always (99.99%) prime numbers (not divisible by any number other than itself and 1). Your 5.65 is probably 5.63:1. The reason they do that is so that the same teeth on the ring and pinion gears take several hundred revolutions before the same gear teeth meet up again. Less noisy, longer wear, less vibration due to uneven wear. Just a tidbit of uselsee info unless you're going to machine your own gears.

I watch your channel because I learn both good and bad habits. I treasure learning the outcome of bad habits within the time allotted on one of your video blogs. This actually saves me time from having to go through all the bad learning the hard way.

Matt, I have been watching for a while. I often go back and watch old videos. It's fun to see how the channel has developed. I never name vehicles, but I can't wait to see the name you give the big wrecker when it starts working. You've done well with character development. You deserve every sub you have earned!

I can’t wait to see the wrecker completed! I’m very anxious to see the video of the off road wreckers in their competition, what ever that competition may be! Matt will definitely have the coolest. The only thing that I’m worried about is the final weight of this beast!

Hey, love the videos, and can't wait to see the finished wrecker :) A friendly tip to the camera operator - if someone is explaining something and points to an item, it's more important to show the item than their face. Keep up the awesome work!

It'll probably be fine with the DOM welded into the new holes in the steering end brackets, but stacking stuff that way can introduce bending into the equation (literally) that you normally don't have to worry about with a double sheer configuration. Whether that will be an issue remains to be seen, but you guys are in a whole new arena moving stuff this big with as much force as you will be. I'd suggest keeping an eye on those as you begin putting it through its paces. (Yes, engineer here, sorry... LOL) Great to see it all coming together!!!

I am looking forward to seeing the heavy wrecker move under its own power. Please weight it in running condition so we can how much that beast weighs. Been watching your channel since the early days of red ropes, Randy, and almost stock banana with Winder towing on the doors and this is one of a Very few channels that consistently has great content. I hope everyone involved has a wonderful Christmas! Matt watching that torque wrench with Tom Tom was priceless😀

Have you ever considered pressing the U-Joints in? My dad always insisted that one should use the proper tool for the job, and if he had seen me using a hammer to install U-Joints I might not have made to adulthood. I too have used some questionable methods of repairing things in the field, but they did get me home. I love your videos. Tom is a great addition.

I really enjoy watching this videos however ( I don’t know if anyone else feels the same way) we all know what Matt looks like, sometimes when he is explaining and showing what he is building, working or fixing something it will be nice if the camera-person can show us what is he taking about, that said I truly enjoy this videos, thx for all the fun.

It would be interesting to get the backstory on Lizzy. Considering what she's doing now...when did they hire her? What was her job at that time? Is she full time with Matt or does she work elsewhere? She's quite impressive with her skill, attitude and work ethic. At first I thought she was his daughter.

She’s one of his good friend’s daughters. She’s very young and from what I’ve seen she’s learnt most of her skills regarding recovery/fabrication whilst working with Matt. I also am pretty sure it’s been said in videos that she dances and participates in some form of horse or rodeo competitions?

Hay Matt I think I have some good news for you. Since y’all don’t use pneumatic impacts in the shop you can tell Tom Tom to throw away those torque limiting extensions. Because they dont work on cordless impacts do to there faster anvil actuation that doesn’t allow the torque limiting extensions to flex, preventing over tightening. So, using the torque limiting extensions is a false sense of security someone’s going to end up overtightening, or breaking more. I’m pretty sure if you look at the specs up on all torque limiting extensions, it will state for pneumatic impact use only.

I love the cooperation between these experts in Utah; you want wiring, everybody gets Chad (not to mention his expertise with engines, see Paul's saggy valve springs in the Coronet). It's a real clearing-house of life-skills and expertise. No arguments, no ego-trips, just recognising that there are people way better at stuff than I am and getting them on the job!
