A victory pie dispenser, I love it! That thing is quite seriously the best off-road rig I have ever seen bar none and the fact it was built entirely from scratch with chalk lines on the floor makes it even more impressive.

I've thought of the wheel lift idea to. If you had a short boom wheel lift that was hinged, maybe sat on a airbag with a roller in the middle under it, it would carry the front or rear of a vehicle off the ground. If the wrecker went up a steep incline the roller rests on the ground while the boom rides up. Downhill and flat ground it rides on the air bags under the boom on the wrecker frame. Air bags or the boom winch to lift the towed vehicle off the ground. Or do old school short wheeled log arch type deal that would mimic a tow dilly with matching 46" tires and load the towed vehicle front or rear wheels into it. Just my 2 sense. Keep up the good work guys and gals!

Matt made a marvel from scratch in his building of the biggest off road wrecker. This recovery vehicle is loved by all that drive it! Jaymie love's this wrecker and driving it is so easy and just float's right on over the rough trails leaving the Banana and Morrvair behind. It's something for Matt and his team to be very proud of.
@Kebmoz
@Kebmoz Жыл бұрын
2 thoughts as I watch, things to try... 1) Some sort of steel bar or tube with a winch line through it. Would allow you to pull the towed vehicle in tight (compression member) for control or let line pay out if needed to clear an obstacle. It could be triangulated and articulate to control left right movement. 2) I've used this to recover broken UTV before, with much less capable equipment, where I use winch line to compress front suspension some and chain in place before lifting to get that extra bit of clearance.

I have been mentioning this since the wrecker build began... Matt needs to talk to Eric at BSF Recovery. Eric uses a typical wrecker sling for 90% of his recoveries. There is definitely a learning curve to using a sling on extreme terrain but it can be done and it is worth learning and using. The wrecker boom would have also benefitted from an extendable boom to give space between vehicles with better angles.

SUGGESTION: if you install cheap aftermarket back view camera on the lower part of the boom(or somewhere where you can see the front of the tow car), then you would not need to overthink how high to lift the tow car, you could just go with whatever height, and then actively adjust and lower it on the big drops(so it does not overturn, or lif it up, if front wheels interfering in a bad way on steps up). But it would always give you perfect feedback on where you want to be as you go.

That’s why Matt didn’t make the wrecker a crew cab. He can look out the back window and see that. Just needs more practice doing everything thing at the same time. You’re trying to keep track of 8 tires, 3 steering axles, 3 winch controls, communicating with the other driver. It’s a lot of stuff that he needs to get used to.

I don't run a towing company and the most off road vehicle I have is a 4-wheeler that plows snow from my driveway. But thanks to Matt and his awesome crew I think have heavy wrecker envy.

Before you lift up the towed vehicle you could strap down the front axle to the frame (keep suspension compressed) and avoid having to lift too high or bumping the tires on the ground frequently. Probably works on rear axles as well if you’re towing backwards. Use your Matt straps! Anyway, love what you do, greets from Germany!

Seeing the success of the heavywrecker, how about adding "Summer mudguards" for the looks, small but adding to the looks easily removeable", and "winter mudguards" also with looks but larger and removeable easily to same mounts. Maybe somebody can mock up a few styles on a computer to chose from. I think if done right can make a huge difference on top of an already highly successfull rescue vehicle.

Hey Matt I would say as far as hanging a tow bar as part of the wrecker is a good idea but it has its draw backs. Being former military, you will find the limits of that tow bar very fast. Majority of the time of we are on fort ground your ok light of roading your okay. The down side is that you have to have some one in the back to control the brakes to help you slow down if not what ever you pulling is now pushing you and momentum is now working against you, also you need to lock the steering wheel so that it will not turn at all! If you don't or becomes 1000 times harder to drive and you run the risk of damaging the steering/ vehicle over the terrain. The biggest down side is that not all vehicles have attachment points for you to hook up a tow bar for the military they are all standard , but this is civilian life so your tow bar idea may not be suitable for all vehicles. The best idea is the one the army had with there 5 ton wrecker which was either an 8 or a 10 ft v shaped tow bar but the crane at the back lifted the front end of the ground . That one had an independent switch that lets us activate the rear brakes instead of the normal from braking. You may want to look into that. If you do use a tow bar your honey to have to make a master attachment points for that tow bar so that it can connect into various vehicles because no two vehicles are the same or have the same attachment points or have exposed lifting points as well.

That was amazing pulling up the hill. How tall was that rock Jamie drove the passanger rear over? Looked to be at least 4' if not 5'. Amazing what it just walks over. Very nice MORR crew. Have a great weekend!

The heavy wrecker is such an awesome build. Talk about purpose built. I needs a nick-name though. However, as an individual that's been in the recovery industry for more than fifty years, im impressed, Matt, both with your skills as an operator but also as a driver. Personally I think your wrecker is the best of the lot. Now you need to build an off road roll back. That or buy a HEMMIT with the pallet loader on it

I've been working on required tank levels for various fluids; hydraulic oil, diesel, gassoling, even water. Keep it simple, get a "SIGHT GLASS" they are ubiquitous. They are fail safe. Get some sight gages on your rigs, Matt. Cheers and best of luck.
