Howdy folks, I've had a few questions about products made in China. I'm trying to deepen my research to provide a more informed answer, but here's a post that represents my general concerns (by Aether Beauty): aetherbeautyco.com/blogs/goodvibesbeauty/why-well-never-produce-our-products-in-china I find it difficult to suss out moral, ethical, quality, and sustainability standards with products made in China. It's from a labor + Earth perspective, nothing against Chinese people or brands who can guarantee certain standards. Until the Chinese government can ensure better labor laws for its people, I feel comfortable calling it out. I'm not hyper-vigilant (my bad about the Huda large palette that's made in Italy! I'll be more careful next time) and there are so many new things I'm continually learning. Best of luck on your own research journey. Thanks for your kind understanding! xoxo Diana

I think we are evolving to a mindset where we realize we dont need so much! I always look for declutter videos and lately i am seeing a trend, before it was a thing to collect make up non stop and now we are more conscious and aware. I celebrate that! And of course it is a journey, not something that will happen from one day to the other. Anyways, this was a great declutter!! Congratulations for this big step! Sorry if the english is not perfect i am a spanish speaker. Hugs from Uruguay ♥️

Aw, thanks for sharing this perspective (with perfect English, might I add!) it's always refreshing to hear others experiences with movements and waves of behavior. Hope you are staying safe out there, thanks for watching! Cheers xoxo Diana

I have about 12 palettes right now and started a no-buy. I’m pretty content with my collection but I still am looking for specific colors and formulas to pad out the color options. I love how thoughtful you were in decluttering! I would loved to see them all laid out once you were done and seen the number comparisons :)
@breathless_siren3 жыл бұрын
I made the mistake of padding put and used the excuse I don't have this. Then I realized I don't even like the colors or would wear them more than once. Go for it though if you want to, your collection is smaller than mine and over half the palettes are definite regrets. I do love the ones I love though.

I also did a ruthless declutter of my skincare & makeup a while ago! My previously maximalist ways really conflicted with my more minimalist ideals of, like you, having a curated arsenal of products. I felt so overwhelmed by the idea of having so many options. I went through a period of blindly buying products but always feeling disappointed with how they looked. I then realised my real issue was with my skin - I wasn't happy with it & nothing looks as pretty as skin that you've embraced. I also realised the best way to achieve the ~effortless look~ for myself, is to literally be effortless i.e. not feel as though I have to do the whole she'bang of bronzer contour highlight blush etc... So i quite literally Marie Kondo'ed everything & started new. For makeup now I have - 2 products from manasi7: skin enhancer and manketti all over colour which gives the chicest non-colour to the face (beautiful brand btw, I think you may like its image & aesthetics) - mac shadow duo I've put together & a few lipsticks for different occassions (which btw mac is ??so good??still?? Has all the shades of brown shadows and browny lipsticks I crave) - essence mascara(!!!! Crazy cheap and the best mascara I've ever used for my asian lashes)
@SlowGaze4 жыл бұрын
Wow, relating hard to your comment and impulse to start anew! Manasi 7 looks bomb, I'll have to dive deeper and thanks for the rec. Always curious about others' journey and current collection. I think it's nice to change and reevaluate, nothing should be set in stone. A lot of the minimalism movement comes from people who have ascribed to the general consumerist values but found it lacking. We *unfortunately* have to "have it all" before realizing it's an empty promise! And yasss, I'm always searching for a great mascara for my Asian lashes! So far Ilia is blowing me away :-) Thanks for watching xoxo Diana

Ooofa! That was painful. I feel slightly disgusted at my own large palette (and lipstick) collection, though I do try to pass on at least 1-8 palettes and/or other makeup items a month to other people. It's the luxury ones I struggle with because they were so much money, I gave away the Tilbury pillow talk pops palette today. It felt good, as I hated that it always looked orange on me. Now if I could only curb the flow of makeup coming in.

I’m the same with palettes and lipsticks - I can often fall into the trap of buying them with my ‘fantasy self’ in mind. I then almost feel guilty when my actual self is more into natural tones or using one colour shade all over the lid instead of those people who manage to create looks with they whole rainbow spectrum. I sort of end up bullying myself because I say my actual self is boring when it’s really not and I need to get away from that toxic thought. I’m trying to think what my fantasy self is in a more positive light - for instance my fantasy self wishes to be better at cooking so I’m learning and then working to make it achievable that my fantasy self becomes my actual self, if that makes sense :) also, why are you not keen on buying make up from China?
@SlowGaze4 жыл бұрын
Omg I adore this - not "decluttering" your fantasy self, but instead shedding a more achievable/actionable light on that idea. That sounds healthy and positive. Cooking lessons are great because they benefit ourselves but also others ;-) I also love what you said about reckoning with the thought of being "boring". Since starting KZbin, it's amazed me by how people can respond to such a mundane life such as mine! But we can all empathize and relate if our hearts are open, and basic or simple can also mean sophisticated and grounded, right? Best of luck on your self-love journey (not that you need it!) I have to think more on the Made in China topic, but thanks again for watching! xoxo Diana
@ElizaFroot4 жыл бұрын
SlowGaze Exactly! I know so many people, especially on KZbin, beat themselves up because they have fallen into the trap of buying make up or clothes, etc, for their ideal version of themselves and I feel that such a toxic way to think about it. We need to be kinder to ourselves and realise that we can attempt to turn this around and shine lights on what is positive and achievable for our ‘natural selves’. I’m trying to be more positive with my thoughts because I can so easily fall into a deep, dark place where I blame myself for everything. I’m glad that struck a chord with you - I think classing things (in regards to make up) as boring is another toxic trait that has come into the beauty community. For example, sometimes you see it when people talk about new products and eye roll when a new palette is coming out that features brown shades. But if you like wearing what is called nude shades (trying to think of an all encompassing word for these types of palettes because nude if different for each skin tone?) that isn’t a terrible thing and you’re not boring. Every colour has so much richness and diversity to it if you look closely! Thank you so much for the well wishes, and if you do a video or talk a bit more about Made in China and your thoughts about it, it would be great to hear :) xx

My question to you I think is how does one support black owned brands (for beauty products) when quite literally none of the products are colors, formulas, textures, or shades that you would or could wear? From very pigment heavy eye shadows to extremely yellow undertones I’ve yet to find one brand that is wearable for me. My skin tone pairs really nicely with the original pillow talk quad, the original instant eye pallete (2017 one now discontinued) type colors. I find black owned eyeshadow colors are so dense similar to colourpop in that the are so pigmented you can tell they are cheaply made and the colors are so packed with pigment that there really is no way to lighten the colors even with a very light hand. Obviously would want to support but so far nothing is for me.
@SlowGaze2 жыл бұрын
Hey Nick, great question! I don't have the *only* answer to this, but in my humble opinion, even asking the question of, "how can I support black-owned brands?" is a great start. We don't have to be "influencers" by trade to influence others in our lives. And even suggesting that a friend you know try a Black-owned beauty brand first, or suggesting that they check those creators out at all, is a step in the right direction. Brands aren't just the products; they rely heavily on social cache and recognition. You can support them by helping them become household names, building trust and a worthy reputation, or just helping them enter the conversation by sharing their posts on social, liking their stuff on social media, and all other ways that aren't wallet related. I hear ya on this one; but my favorite Black-owned beauty products have to be lipsticks (which are more universal than not) from Uoma and Pat McGrath, plus this claw hair-clip I got from Pattern. I'm sure there are many more out there for me yet undiscovered. Thanks for asking the question... I know you'll find some answers! xoxo Diana

I don’t enjoy hudas 9 pan palettes … I feel like they are honestly garbage… But I bought her rose gold remastered palette and it’s probably like either my favorite or second favorite eyeshadow palette that I own... And I probably have close to 200 eyeshadow palettes… Even though I’m probably only actually tried like 60 to 70 of them… But out of the 60 or 70 that I’ve tried… It’s one of my absolute favorites. The colors just blend so perfectly and the shimmers are so smooth and buttery. I wouldn’t discount all of huda beauty products… Even though their 9 pan palettes are just crap to me.

Huda’s big palettes are actually made in italy. And we should definitely stop saying “made in China” with a negative connotation, that’s xenophobic imo. I get that you’re Chinese but perpetuating this idea is hurting many good Chinese brands. I’ve seen people trashing Kaleidos cosmetics (which imo has one of the best formulas out there) just because they’re made in China.

Hi Fati, thanks for watching and for sharing your opinion! It's from a labor + Earth perspective, nothing against Chinese people or brands who can guarantee top standards. I hear ya about the xenophobic perpetuation. Nothing inherently wrong, it's just difficult to guarantee top moral, ethical, and quality standards. I own many brands that manufacture in China - maybe not the cosmetics themselves - but who make their brushes, packaging, etc. there. I'm not hyper-vigilant. Brands also have to test on animals if they sell in mainland China. There are so many new things I'm learning, so best of luck on your own research journey. Thanks for watching! xoxo Diana
