Dear Scott, I was born in 1960 and since then I have known the taste of our food. We try every day to avoid these low-quality, overpriced industrial products. We have not been able to do so for a long time now. We are confronted with real excesses in Germany too. These are processes of an industry of madness that we never needed and no one behind the podium wants to tell the truth. We like your work very much. I worked for a Chinese food importer for a few years in the late 80s. You can't compare it anymore, and the bankers who are responsible for this,... belong behind bars.
@Brave2standalone4 ай бұрын
The solution is simple: Homeowners with backyards need to start raising their own food and planting fruit trees wherever possible. Back in Serbia people grew vegetables and the excesses were shared with neighbors who reciprocate with something they grew. Farmers from neighboring villages bring produce to 'farmers' markets' cheaper than supermarkets. People were also buying fruit in season (cheap!) and were making their own jams and preserves. For meat: people were buying an entire pig or half a cow (precut) from the ranchers and store it in large freezers. Under communism the wages for most people were meager and eating out or only store-bought food was unsustainable.

You are right about the prices never ever coming down but could you start looking at the expiration dates. Everyone assumes that the only thing you need to look at the expiration dates on is milk and dairy products but you would be surprised at the grocery stores selling out of date can goods, bread, chips and even fridge meats(not deli), you will also notice shotty packaging, busted open, half sealed and razor cuts. Buy some fresh ground meat open it up and RED on the outside and Brown, Brown on the inside. I have shopped at Walmart, Publix and Food Lion all the same and I can only shop 1 day out of the month so forget about going back for a refund. So I found a local Butcher Shop he is a little higher but I see in the window what he is getting but he also adds Extra FAT to the ground chuck so when I want a Hamburger I get the Sirloin, the last time I grilled burgers with ground chuck I started with a 4 inch diameter 1 inch thick it came out like a hockey puck set the whole grill on fire so for spaghetti I get chuck for the grill Sirloin.

It was 4 adults working in the house so usually everybody would contribute $100 each and then we would just bulk shop. The rule was if anyone orders in they always purchase the family size whether it was chicken pizza or Chinese food. We survived. We were okay. We always had enough plus plenty to spare at the end of the month. That's why we would vacation every holiday and party alot. We had to care about each other. But then 2 of my siblings got married and left the home so I had to pick up the slack to carry the mortgage. But we had two extra bedrooms.
