I stock pile even though its just me in the house. For household items I just keep 1 extra of each item so when I use up something I already have a replacement and thats when I start shopping for sales to buy another one. For food I only buy about 2 months worth if I don’t use it often and 6 months if it’s something I use all the time. Like when canned tomatoes go on sale once a year for $.25-$.33 a piece I’ll buy 30-40 cans because I use them in everything.

When I bought cereals, I had to store them in glass jars so they didn’t go stale. The jars really help

I use Mason jars to store SOOOO many things, especially in the fridge! It's a game changer for storing delicate perishables, like mushrooms, strawberries and grapes. I've had them last for WEEKS in the fridge and not go bad.

Even though I am single, I stock up when products I use on a regularly are on sale My best stick up was cereal at the $ store name brand , and not a small size would have been at least $3.49 at grocery store I paid $ and purchased 10 boxes. A few weeks later I checked and was told they no longer had that size but instead carried one half the size of what I had purchased.

Yes we stock up too.We live in Australia and buy multiple buys on good supermarket sales or clearances.I mainly stock tins and jars of veges and frozen food.I have a big store of laundry items and shampoo,bodywash and personal care items.Because we live in Queensland,it gets very hot so we have to choose items that dont spoil during summer.Our days can get to 40 degrees celcius,and things like nuts and grains can get spoilt or bug infested.Grooming items have a long shelf life as does laundry soap etc so I have a very good stockpile of these.Thanks for sharing your stockpile it was very interesting.take care,Foxy.

you should really make your own laundry soap - super, super cheap that way. The ingredients are very minimal, and very easy to make. I made a 5-gallon drum and it lasted a long time - years (for me - don't have kids anymore) and the cost was maybe $5 - probably less, since I didn't use up all the ingredients - saved them for another batch later. And the ingredients are much better than the stuff they put in the commercial brands. look for homemade laundry detergent on internet - many different places to find the recipe. Also homemade products for daily use - toothpaste, deodorant, face/hand creams, etc. If you choose the good ingredients - coconut oil, essential oils, etc. you will have products that are MUCH healthier for you too.

that's nice that you can do that. I have TRIED for many years. our land here in the city is JUST not productive; did raised beds with new soil - that was good for a very short time. I compost, mulch, etc. just not very fruitful. The only times it had a good yield, we had deer, raccoon, rabbits, skunks, foxes, etc. everything out there fighting over the stuff. I tried SO many different products to keep the critters away with no luck. I finally just let them have it!

My teenagers only really like the fruit pouches. You should take off the Rings after you canned the food because I've been told that with the rings off if there ever is botulism it will pop the lit up but with the rings on it forces a fake seal. Not so much of an issue with Jam's Etc but definitely was tomato sauce etc.

If you live in an earthquake-prone area (or are just a klutz like me) you can use bungee cords to create soft rails around the shelves with glass jars on them. It reduces the risk of them falling off and breaking.

Try coating Chicken with flavored mashed potatoes and bake. I dip the chicken in beaten egg and then coat with the potato flakes and bake!

I like to see you have everything you will need in a shtf. If possible you should consider taking the noodles and anything that can absorb moisture out of that room; With the water heater and freezer you may run into mold that is not visible to the naked eye and get sick. Believe me, I have learned that the hard way.

I stockpile some things and then I try and make my pantry a working Pantry so as IU stuff I make note of it so that when it comes on sale again I replace what I've used I usually have about two or three months worth of things we eat on a regular basis when they go on sale like the Costco crackers and oatmeal. I used to buy lots of cereal my kids were small and they used to eat cereal but I found that I couldn't stockpile it because it would probably go rancid before they would eat it as sometimes I got some deals on I would buy 3 or 4 boxes this month and then two months later I buy three or four boxes but we only went through one and I've had cereal and I've had some crackers and nuts go steal on me so I know keep those limited and smaller quantities and only buy two or three boxes

I had a storage that looked similar it was great until it started going bad because we couldn’t eat it fast enough and started unloading it while it was still eatable. It was an expensive educational experience about what not to do. But all education cost $$$.

Most building codes won't permit that sort of division. Too easy for a fire to start with all that dry building material, take the room out, and then destroy the rest of the house.

Love your stockpile and how you shop - Gal after my own heart. Sales, digitals, etc. are a girls best friend. I don't have as much room as you (no basement) but I stock as much as I can. Like I tell my husband - paper goods don't go bad and toothpaste, pasta, soup, etc. is good for a year or so. The garage is "guy land" so I can't store anything out there LOL.

Bugs will get in your flour and pasta! It is best to put these in quart or larger size canning jars for long-term storage as well as your rice and other grains

Nashville Tennessee U R absolutely correct about weevils will get in all grains and dried beans . In fact a weevil egg can already be in the grains or dried beans . I freeze all my flour , rice , beans first - let them get back to room temp and than put them in jars , if in Mylar bags - than in a ‘food grade’ bucket . Nothing could be worse than being in a crisis and your food is full of weevils . This takes a little more time but it is vital .

We do not get food this cheap in the UK or in Spain. Good quality food in Europe is expensive. I would never have eaten cheap meat at any time though, production value too poor. Ate more beans and pulses. But now a veggie. Just going to do an experiment of eating frugal in UK, I also need to lose 14 lbs so going to combine the two projects.

How did you get the peanut butter down to $.99? So far I have bought a few things way ahead that has really helped our budget! Ty for posting. We bought dog food and bones from Target because they had 20% off and a year supply of 36 oz. Heinz ketchup and canola oil for $.99 each. I saw a meme recently about toilet paper math. I cannot even figure out what is a good deal lol? How did you get the Barilla pasta down to $.50? Did it include the gluten free? Sometimes (it's rare), the peanut butter will go on sale for that price at a certain store. It happens maybe once a year? The Barilla is the same, it's just on sale for that price at Smith's sometimes - it did NOT include gluten free. I have no figured out how to get around the pick up and Ibotta yet. They need to fix that.

How long will your hike be? I have a question on the expiration dates. I noticed the Hungry Jack was "best if used by July 2016." What is your take on expiration dates? How long do these things stay tasty? Love your videos as always!

Our hike will be a total of 8 miles with some steep parts. We are hiking to a mountain lake. Expiration dates for me depend on the type of food it is. Spice packets like the hungry jack are fine past the date. It's just garlic and pepper and salt. Pasta is fine. Milk? Much less fine.

Use the floors of your pantry. The space under bed..if you have it. Don't forget any additional room in clothing closet. You may have more room than you think.

I think often were often trying to justify "food hoarding". Most of us also shop weekly. Many of the food that you have is unhealthy processed food.
