All new Greek factions and new mechanics in the latest update for RTR: Imperium Surrectum for Total War: Rome Remastered!
The modders behind this amazing mod have been hard at work, bringing us regular dev diaries and updates before finally bringing out the latest version, namely 0.4.0. This version brings with it a whopping 11 new factions located all around the world, a host of new cultures and religions, and even a brand new cultural and annexation mechanic, which brings a whole new dynamic to every campaign. Imperium Surrectum is awesome. Looks beautiful on ultra settings too. Minimal bugs that ive noticed. Im about 150 turns into a Baktria campaign, very challenging especially first 75 turns getting started dealing with nomadic onslaughts from the north and selucids from the west

Hi Andy, really enjoyed your take on this. I bought Rome Remastered when it came out but it won't run on my antiquated PC, running Windows 8.1 still lol. Have no fear, I have a new machine pencilled in for later on this year when I should have the money :)

honestly i tried the game and i missed the old interface too much that i couldnt even play it! i wish there was an option to make it like before... till then it seems im going to keep playing RTR platinum 1.9 of the original. i couldnt get EB to work for some reason :/ maybe i did something wrong.

A game is not made only of mods, but this one does seem very nice and significant, but I wanted to ask, how does vanilla RR holds up for you, Andy? Thanks for the review, as always!

Thanks, Alejandro! I actually reviewed vanilla RR back when it came out, feel free to check that out. I know many people found it underwhelming, but me personally, I really enjoyed it. I thought the visual updates were great for the most part, and I love how smoothly it runs compared to the original - the fact that the mod support is excellent is an added bonus. Now, would I rather play Rome 2 with DEI? Yes, but RR still holds that nostalgic sweet spot for me, and I really hope we get a similar version of Medieval 2, which in itself is a lot more modern-feeling than Rome ever was.

I Bought Rome remastered only to have the game crash and crash and crash at the start up. I have a brand new Alienware laptop, and it won't open it.. and total war won't give a refund. Kinda sucks.

Hmm that’s very weird. Have you tried verifying game cache on steam?

Pretty sure rome 1 mods were always that way. I still remember Europa Barbarorum having naked barbarians with high upkeep. Allies are useless and always betray you

This mod managed to butcher performance to vanilla Rome 1 levels by adding a complete vomit of shaders and filters and extra things. It's a huge feat. I tried a battle and got about 35fps maxed out at 1440p on a 1080ti and 8700k at 5ghz. Absolute joke. These devs are out of touch history title grognards who just don't understand how to make a modern game. AI cheating and bullshit scripts. I just think we moved beyond this. I don't know. I appreciate what they tried to do but they need to think gameplay first. What's the point of taking the optimized Feral Interactive engine and massacring it with 10 layers of shaders to make it run like original Rome 1? Do you really miss framedrops that much?

agree, i played a night siege and the fire arrows was literally freezing my game. i5 9600kf with 3060, freezing fps on Rome 1 xD. and yes the mod is also unplayable because of ai balancing. kind of seems like a waste of work to have all these nice factions on a nice map when the game doesnt even play as a game
