Regarding the pre-rendered scenes and the third person perspective of gordon getting attacked, my bet is that a part of the game in first person mode, your character gets knocked by an unknown enemy. That third person segment was intended to be shown on security camera footage for the player to view as a reveal of who attacked him.

Honestly I can believe that Half-Life would have had thirdperson cutscenes very early on. The game has a camera entity that allows mappers to script fairly complex cutscenes, like you can make it move along a path and focus on a moving target and everything. I think the only time it's ever used is when Gordon is being dragged to the garbage disposal. So I'm not sure why they spent so much time coding such a thing if they never even used it fully.

I actually don't know if the scientists surviving is a goofier version. In the released version, they die left and right, exploding into gibs in VERY silly ways. Them fighting for their life and just happening to survive FOR NOW feels a lot more grounded and darker to me.

The model is not the same the HL:S textures were made for, and, the credibility for the female scientist is... Not sure if it's real, or just some re-creation, or maybe it's just a revision really. What i believe is that it is just an earlier model than that one that has pictures and textures of. And, Half-Life's models were probably just higher poly in general early on, whereas the later model that HL:S has textures of, is a simpler one.

in-engine cutscenes are always pretty janky in games, though you can see that many games now are so detailed that it doesn't matter, or they even switch out the low-poly normal models with cutscene-only ones. But yeah Valve probably just realized that it looked odd and they felt like always being in the player's perspective is better. Also I wish the Panthereye made it in, cuz it would've been fun to fight imo esp if it was like those demons in Quake that hopped around, would be interesting to shake things up.

It definitely speaks to the memorability of Half-Life that I can tell where quite a few of those Scientist cutscenes eventually were used. And I think you misinterpreted the 4:05 cutscene. That scientist isn't guiding the Heavyweapons guy and the vort. It seems to actually be depicting the Scientist being nearly sneak-attacked by the vortigaunt, before the HW guy steps in and kills the alien before it actually attacks...

The game's years old, it's become a classic, these assets are a piece of gaming history and gaining further insight into Half-Life's development via early assets is extremely interesting, and Valve has nothing to lose by sharing and releasing them.

I have read some of the mails exchanged between Mark Laidlaw and the fans, where he explained that cutscenes where planned to be a part of the game, but they got scrapped in the later parts of development, when the team decided that they would take too much time to implement and it might be more interesting to stay in the player's perspective

I wonder if that was only ever intended for marketing the game. The grunts are only ever shown killing scientists, not bothering to so much as interrogate them, and I can't imagine a scene where a grunt is too busy threatening or interrogating a scientist while Gordon is standing around in the same room.

I havea a lot of questions on these cut animations and models, like many of them look cool. The more cut content I see for HL1 the more I wonder why Valve cut these things. I do love the final version of HL but at the same time, compare to the large number of cut animations, the released version barely had any.

I'd guess that most of it boils down to old animations not being able to fit the latest map designs, and that redesigning the maps to include them would have taken too long. It's also possible that too many scripted sequences might have come across as annoying to players (depending on how many were of the "gotta wait for this sequence to end before you can proceed" variety.)
