When i was a kid a neighbor had a MASSIVE swarm land in his patio on a small tree. After a short while, a couple weeks maybe, thy called a bee guy who came. They couldnt believe it! 80 lbs of honey and in 3 days they were rebuilding and the combs were almost 5 ft long engulfing several branches. The whole block was complaining about so many bees. That was an awesome jolt with the tree branch! Bravo!

I agree the swarm is a magical thing to witness. I recently had one land on one of my Santa Rosa Plum trees in my home orchard. I was not able to capture it though but the experience spurred me to get my own hive and try to capture another swarm or buy a swarm of bees for my orchard. I felt so sad when they left like almost losing a long lost friend. Awesome video!

Awesome video!! So glad that one did not get away. That's called a "prime swarm", which consists of the original queen of the hive and a good part of the worker bees. It's very important to determine the origin of that swarm because lesser swarms will soon begin leave that hive. Immediate intervention is required to assure the viability of the hive.

Now I know what I need to do. All my hives are in backyard. Find an audio clip of thunder, play it through sub-woofer set into rear window or on the patio. Boom. Usually I just grab the hose and sprinkle them; thinking it’s raining, they usually return to the hive.

One of the more informative beekeeping videos! I'm a new to the BeeKeeping game, and I'm always searching for safe ways to do this. I'm also allergic to bee stings, so I have be super safe. And I have a stock-pile of epi-pins. LOL I totally get it that I will get stung from time to time, however as long as I minimize the stings, I'm sort of okay.

Good catch honey girl! I hate it when my bees swarm unless I can catch and rehome them. I saw 3 in the air last week and got all of them. I’m sure 2 of them came from one of my hives but one came from another location. I gave one to a young man that lost his this winter and kept the other two, moved them to my other bee yard and they are doing great. If your swarm knew how kind and sweet you are they would definitely stay where you put them! Thanks for the video!

Over the past year I've been around bees in southern Utah. Originally from the East coast and always stayed clear of them. But here, they're not aggressive, just interested in what I'm doing when I'm working outside, I leave the van doors open and they'll go inside to check things out for a while and leave. I see maybe 100 a day come around me. If I feel one getting a bit to crazy, I'll slowly move my hand so it feels the air push it. I'll do my woodworking and they'll land on a tool in my hands so I'll wait. They really are fascinating if you take the time. And we get winds here in the canyons. Gusty winds. I can always tell when a gust is coming, they will anchor themselves on grass stalks.

It helps a lot if you can lift the box closer to where the bees are, and even balance it close by. Then they are not as disturbed when you shock them., besides there will still be a scent on the branch, and those flying around will go back to where the knew the colony to be. ( I sometimes mask that scent by using spray deodorant in tricky situations.) Another important thing, try to get a lid on the box asap, because they will prefer an enclosed space, mainly to conserve the colony temperature. I always find it easier to catch swarms with a cardboard carton, because its light, and comes to the right temperature more quickly than wood. In fact, by interleaving the lids you often get a small opening about 1 1/2 inches by 1/4 inch, that they cant resist going into, once you have the bulk dropped inside. By the way, if you keep track of barometric pressure, (as they do) you'll find they prefer to swarm if there will be at least three days to locate a new location. Conversely, they anticipate bad weather.

I didn't notice them on their stop over until I started the mower and made a couple of passes. They didn't appreciate the push mower and started buzzing around me about the third pass. At first, I thought it was a cloud of smoke and I was really confused... then I ran! Ha!

I have always loved bees, evven though I got stung many times when I was young. I lived in a apatment that had a laundry room with a wndow. I came home from work ne day and the door was closed and there was this humming coming from inside. Bees! I changed into white clothing and went in. I walked very carefully and I really wasnt scared. I had bees land on me but no stinging. I went to the window where many were clustered. and slowly worked the screen off. Almost immediately they started winging out the window, until finally the room was empty. I put the screen back in and opened the door the hallway. I had several neighbors standing there wondering what I was doing. I still feel that because I had no fear pherenomes, and was careful and slow, and was wearing white, and didnt injure or kill any bees that I remained stingless! They were swarming, but how they got in there I have no idea.

Great video thanks for sharing! My neighbours honeybees swarmed into my garden last week, just before a thunderstorm ⛈ 🌩️

Just as I was thinking you should call this swarm the Dogwood hive, you said you were going to. Sweet swarm. Now I know why they like to swarm to the rafters of new house builds, because of the sound of hammering. Great information, thank you, Kaylee! 💖🐝

Ha ha, that's how I name my hives. Myrtle sits near a crape myrtle; then there's Coreopsis, Clethra, Rhodie, Azalea, Walnut, Black Rose, etc. Very nice video of a swarm!
