Massive Hoof Crack (Restoration With Just A Trim)

Hi I’m a farrier from the uk today I will be trimming sparky. Sparky has some big hoof cracks that we are going to try sort out with just a trim.

@@aaronjohn6586 my advice is find the best farrier in your area and see if they can help you out. Go to farrier competitions and learn as much as you can.

The frog has a few jobs but one of its main jobs is part of the anti-concussive mechanism of the hoof. It helps the hoof deal with shock absorbing as the hoof lands.

Are you based in Ukraine nowadays? Going by that medial wall on the left front it looks like Sparky must have stumbled across a Russian land mine in his travels. Nice trimming work mate

im pretty confused about why are you leaving the white line crack in the white line of the toe? Doesnt leaving a crack like that in that spot have a large chance of developing into an issue sooner rather than later?

Some of the cracks would not trim out with out taking to much hoof off which would cause lameness. Unfortunately sparky is really bad with his arthritis and we really don’t know how much time he has left with us until he has to be put down unfortunately. So it is a case of clean his feet up the best we can and make him a bit more comfortable for the time he has left. If he did not have these problems I would sort it out with a shoe. Hopefully this answers your questions.
