This Hendrix style jam track is kinda based on "Somewhere" by Jimi Hendrix. The E minor pentatonic or blues scale work for this whole jam track, but try adding the 6th scale tone on the A chord (watch the top grid). Why? Because the the A triad has a C# note in it (the 6th note of E Dorian). Also, don't forget to add the b5 blues note for even more variation (bottom grid).

Man, you are the only one who creates backing tracks where I feel like you can express something and not just jam over a repeated segment. You make all the other backing tracks feel like a 15 seconds loop. You are really good at this I love it. I love how you give tips and ideas too. I kinda miss when you played and showed us a 30s clip, that really inspired me sometimes. I asked you a few months ago I think but I will try again; any chance for some long+quality Cream tracks? Something like Spoonful and NSU from the Grande Ballroom show and then the long Sunshine from (Dallas I think?). That would be so cool. For some reason almost no quality Cream tracks are found on youtube which amaze me... Keep up the good work man!
@nowyoushred
@nowyoushred 7 жыл бұрын
First of all, thanks. Second, I am definitely coming back with more playing videos... I may even TALK lol. I am currently rebuilding my studio space, and then we'll be in business. Third, the Cream idea is great too, I did a couple, I was actually getting set to do a Blind Faith one... Anyway, it's good info that there aren't many online. Thanks for the reconnaissance mission!

Started playing over this when I was 17, I’m 21 now and it’s so great being able to play this amazing track and just jam out. It’s also a great way to judge my progress, because I was terrible and didn’t at ALL know what I was doing with improvising at 17, and now I’ve developed so much not only as a guitarist but as a musician in general, it’s so awesome to have something like this as a rule of them to check myself as a learn and grow. Now you shred is a great fucking name dude, sounds you’re just telling me what to do😂

wow. i learned how to solo (spontaneously) from this backing track. i knew the notes but didnt know what to do with them or where to put them i know now and it just came naturally because of this track and the music built into us. solo starts low then you just instinctively know it goes high after a certain crescendo. this really nurtures that aspect of playing music but so much more. i tried rhythm and it worked just as well. great job

A little trick for people who are starting to learn their scales like me is to find the corresponding ioninan(major) key to whatever mode is being played, since you probably know the major scale by heart at least: for example, this is in E dorian, and looking around a little bit whe can find out that E dorian corresponds to D major. Find E on the 6th string and just play the D major scale from there, using E as the tonic instead of D.

I would recomend everyone who can get there hands on a bass to learn this bass figure, it will open your fingers to the guitar in ways you never knew! Hendrix him self was a master bass player to, he could play that thing both ways...

Damn this is sweet. Feels more like a song than a backing track and it actually goes somewhere, opening doors as it progresses.

Got to agree with all the comments here in saying this is killer! I listen to a lot of Jimi, and jam to him, this was fresh in the right ways for me, and with the visual aid, I think i actually just started learning new lines around the board (I'm self taught 7 years now) for my Hendrix styled playing, and it was definitely interesting and worth revisiting progress.

Dude this is gold! Great to learn all the shapes of the pentatonics, but most importantly, how to also explore other scales (and step out of the pentatonics)like Dorian, thank you
