I have some stainless steel mugs with lids (looks like Yeti, but I got it from Aldi) and I use that to bring warm meals when we're doing sports/activity stuff and we need to eat away from home. They are not spill proof, but the definitely keep warm. I just keep them in a hard sided cooler so they don't tip.

It’s crazy to think that you guys have decluttered over 90% of your items yet you still have what you need. It really puts into perspective how much excess we tend to live in without even realizing! I’ve been on my decluttering journey for about 2 years and it is very freeing. However, things will change as a baby is getting added into the mix soon 😍 I’m glad I started my decluttering journey to make the transition into motherhood decluttering a bit easier 😂♥️

The biggest investment that has paid off in spades has been lifeliner shelf liner (plastic ridged liner) it has saved our cabinets so many times from accidental oil spills or rotten potato nasty juice. You have this beautiful new kitchen I would definitely invest in something like this so save your cabinets especially that fruit/veggie drawer.

Thank you for addressing the trend to decant everything into clear containers and labelling them, it is a waste of money and resources just for aesthetic reasons. I do not do that either, except for things that will go bad if left in their original packagaing...like cookies. Also, that statment when you said "I am not that mom" truly resonated with me. I am also not that mom, but that does not make me a bad mom, thank you for that

How refreshing to find someone who doesn't "decant" their spices (and everything else!). I look at those other "influencer" spice cabinets, and yes, they look very neat but I find that leaving most things that come in bottles and jars in their original containers makes it easier to find them when I'm looking for them...the size, shape, labels, colors are quick identifiers for me to grab. With most of the "neat" arrangements, you can only see the labels on the front row...I envision myself having to lift up all the rest one by one to find the spice I'm looking for. Besides, I don't have the time or inclination to do all those transfers, make all those labels, and keep the "decanters" clean.
@sburwell752 жыл бұрын
I don't decant unless it is practical either. I look at the Pinterest worthy pantries and it seems like SOOO much more work. We also haven't used our instant pot since last Fall. It will probably go next Spring. My crockpot is the most used small kitchen appliance that we have. Your kitchen arrangement makes sense. 🍂🍁

One of my few uses for my instant pot is cooking frozen chicken thighs that we buy in a large bag at Costco. We get chicken for the week that way, or basically any meal that calls for chicken. It’s so easy. Frozen thighs, half a cup of water, 26 minutes and release. Then I cook rice in the juices that are leftover!

With regard to the keurig and espresso machine and storing things with hostessware, we definitely run into the same issue at Christmastime in our house because I host Christmas. My husband and I always do french press coffee, and that's the only coffee maker we own. At Christmas morning and other holidays, my brother brings over his coffee maker while I am hosting and that has worked for us so far. As a minimalist, we sometimes borrow needed items for holidays like coffee maker, extra chairs, tables etc. I've even used our neighborhood Buy Nothing group to borrow chairs when I had friends visiting from out of state and needed more seating. 🙂 It's the balance of "should I store this" X " how often do I use this item"? I've concluded that my home is not a storage unit! 🙂 I LOVE this video series, Natalie, keep up the good work and I've been excited to check out your sponsors like Thrive Market and Quince!!!
@NatalieBennett2 жыл бұрын
This has become such a pivotal question for me and I agree, my home is not a storage space, unless I can justify using an item several times a year to bless and serve my guests! I had for years been borrowing my mom’s keurig for get togethers but wanted to take some personal responsibility for the wear and tear all of those times of using it would add to someone else’s machine. So we bought our own. We bring it out at least once a month and therefore can totally justify storing it away when it’s not being used!
@adriennemiller66162 жыл бұрын
@@NatalieBennett I totally resonate with your comment about personal responsibility for wear and tear on items, and I think that is such a good factor in deciding whether to borrow or invest/thrift! I'm moving into a season of hosting at my home beyond annual holidays (now that my little is a bit older I'm delving into tea parties, family brunches, BBQ's). That is definitely a point of consideration I will adopt.

Consider getting linings for the non refrigerated produce drawer. There are some on Amazon that also absorb the gases fruits and veggies give off that ripens them faster and can lead to faster rotting produce. That way, you won’t get the bottom of the drawers stained if a fruit or veggie is forgotten and rots.
