This is a good Alonso deal. 4 years $120 million with a player option year 3 team option year 4. That sounds fair.

The Mets need to offer Pete at least 5 years. At 150M
@jasonfocacci92342 күн бұрын

60 million over 3 years would make more sense. You must be related to him to suggest such a ridiculous offer.

Tbh I'd rather The Mets sign Bregman and shift Vientos over to 1B. May not be the popular opinion but that's me, then explore Vlad Jr after the 25 season.
@richardsylvanus27172 күн бұрын
I agree. Bregman has the better batting average than Pete. Offer Pete a 2 year contract with an opt out after first year. If he passes then let him walk. Mets can go after Vlad Jr next year
@robertbrown53192 күн бұрын
Pete can get his $175-200 Mil if he's willing to accept deferred money with reduced present value. I'm sure the Mets would be willing to pay him $5 Mil per year for the next 35-40 years on a 5-yr contract.
@seanconlon27732 күн бұрын
I'd be happy to overpay Pete for 3 years, say $30M per with a player option after the second season. But his slugging is down, strike outs are up and he seems to be losing range in the field. I'd rather the Mets don't make a long-term commitment.

How is this rotation better than last year? Montas hasn't been good in years. Holmes is a 100% experiment. Quintana is better than both of them!

I think the idea is this: 1) the Mets expect to have a healthy Senga, their #1 starter, who they did not have last year; 2) they have Manaea who reinvented himself last year as a legit #2 starter going into ‘25; 3) Peterson got healthy last season and pitched like a #2 starter overall; 4) Montas exactly fits the model that Sterns used last year in signing Manaea and Severino (Stearns believes the “stuff” + Hefner/pitching lab will get Montas back to his best self); 5) Holmes profiles as a good starter in an era where we’ve seen quality relievers convert into quality starters; 6) depth in pitching behind those 5 starters - Butto, Megill, Blackburn, Canning; 7) a growing farm system that could yield quality pitching as soon as next year, even if not on opening day - Sproat, Tidwell, Hamel, etc.; 8) the ongoing pursuit of Sasaki; and 9) the ability to trade for a starter in season if it makes sense. So, that’s the basis for optimism. I certainly am willing to see how it pans out. If nothing else, Stearns earned my trust by what he pulled off last season. I’m not going to assume the worst before the season even starts. The Mets rotation looked like a complete disaster going into last season, especially after Senga went down.

We need Pete enough already, lets get it done. hes a Met for life! like David wright . We also need pitching desperately most importantly, we cant put all our stock in this over priced unhealthy Japanese player. He was out most the season last year so hes delicate and has a hard time with the heavy demand of American Baseball. Quintana is expendable hes done. hes just your run of the mil a work horse . yes Pete chased a lot but that's all in his head . Once his pay is on par with what he deserves, we will see a much better attitude and production.

Viento's best days are ahead, Alonso's best days are behind. Put Vientos at first, find a third baseman. Sign Bregman or try Mauricio. Do not up the offer to Alonso past 3 years for 90 million with the opt outs. Let him bet on himself.

im over alonso. we need an ace not a 1st baseman who hits 200 and acts like an idiot. if that list is true they should announce they dont want him! our problem is stearns is too busy trying to prove he is the lousy pitcher whisperer and refuses to sign talented pitchers which is what killed us last year. so this year he spent money on soto and then made the pitching staff worse! lol. if we had a couple good bullpen arms and 2 top tier starters we would win the world series. pete alonso doesnt help this team at all. a home run every 4 games isnt that helpful when you are batting .200! forget him, get pitching! grow a set and sign trevor bauer at league min and then you have an actual ace! do whatever you can to improve the pitching staff! all that money on the field and triple a pitching? this is not a good plan! bye pete!

Yep, why do we need a guy who hits 35-40 homers a year & knocks in 100 runs? They’re a dime a dozen.
@pingamalinga2 күн бұрын
@@richardcurley5798He played 162 games last season and did neither of those things. His OPS dropped two seasons in a row and his production last season with RISP was bad.
@richardcurley57982 күн бұрын
@95Comics discounting 2020 shortened season, he’s averaged over 110 rbi & over 40 homers. He sent us to the NLDS last year. What game are you watching? You do realize baseball is a game of failure.
@pingamalinga2 күн бұрын
@@richardcurley5798 You dont look at averages when a FA's OPS has declined steadily over the last 3 seasons. You offer contract on what player is presumed to do, not what they used to do. Pete's current trend is declining OPS and lower exit velocity. You dont offer him a deal based on what he was prior to this.
@95Comics2 күн бұрын
@ yes but the guy doesn’t wanna play here anymore, so I’m not gonna focus on the good things. I’m gonna focus on the 200 batting average and all the strikeouts and rumored clubhouse problems he was always a part of we don’t need him. He has had multiple offers that would have made him the richest first baseman in the game, but that’s still not enough even though you’re supposed to take less money to play with your favorite team. So let him go where he wants We need pitching. Juan Soto replaces him very nicely. They couldn’t even sign somebody else like Bregman if they wanted. Crying about somebody who doesn’t wanna be here Does nobody any good
