The whole point of a container house is that it's cheap, fast to make, strong, durable, lasts a long time, very good in case of earth quakes, that thing isn't going anywhere, those things are built to withstand storms on ships. That's the point not to leave the walls exposed lol, some people .....My dream is to have one very similar to what you made. The feeling must be amazing. Looks amazing , it's nice and big

Please do! Our videos have come a long way, but we have put a lot of time and energy into documenting our work!! Been 2 years and 7 months so far and it started way before we started building the foundation. Saving up cash and finding the right land etc. We bought our families 100 year old farm house and did an estate sale, selling everything including sinks, old doors, appliances and cabinets. It was stripped down well before we started the demo process. It would have required a ton of work on that house already and we bought it to take it down from the start and would have let someone move the house off the property at their expense but no takers! We lived in it for 3 years before we were able to move forward. There is some of our background story for you. Thanks for watching!

The exterior came out great. As for the standard question many have probably had... why did you make a container home if the entire exterior has zero container showing and about 30% of the interior covered up?? No hate just curious. Also.. Total cost so far?
@SunfishBudgetАй бұрын
The middle of the our home a 27 ft spread is just traditional framing and the 6 shipping container are all exposed on the interior. Also the kitchen and downstairs living room have no containers either, we have beams holding up the 2 containers on the second level. The only rooms that were we "covered" walls is the bathrooms because of moisture and the bedrooms all have at least one wall container and the other side a finished wall due to noise control and warmth. Otherwise all the containers are exposed, much more then 30% exposer. The point is for a strong and long lasting home that is very efficient for heating and cooling. thanks for asking! Next video out tomorrow on landscaping, we have had a busy summer, thanks for watching!!!

I’m new to this page so I haven’t seen any answers to th questions, why build a container home if none of the container is visible on the exterior? And why is the build taking over a year? I thought part of the appeal of a shipping container house was that speed of the build because they are basically already assembled and are just placed. I do like that you framed the space between the containers with steel. But why not just build a steel frame house and leave the containers out?
@SunfishBudget10 ай бұрын
to answer the questions...we wanted them visible from the interior. it is a 4200 sq ft custom home. we didnt want a steel framed house. thanks for watching

@SunfishBudgetАй бұрын
We have the metal exposed on the inside ( not the outside as you normally will see with container homes) of the home and had spray foamed applied on the outside and then did siding on the outside. due to our cold weather climate it helps with thermal bridging, thanks for asking. Since we did 6 containers in isn’t necessarily less experienced but a very strong and long lasting home. Next video is out tomorrow, all on landscaping, we have had a busy summer, thanks for watching!!

I'm on board with the no reason for containers crowd. Even if you keep some of them visible after construction is complete, that is not a reason for containers as that just leaving them exposed for aesthetics (which is the opposite of why most people use containers, as they use them DESPITE their looks not because of them... The use of containers is supposed to speed construction, and reduce the cost overall as well as reduce the need for wood in the overall structure while still maintaining a very strong and supportive structure. This building does not seem to benefit much if at all from the use of containers in its construction in terms speed, cost, or using less wood. Calling this a shipping container home is just not in the spirit of what a shipping container home means to me and likely to the majority of people interested in the topic of container homes.
