Haha, "English Weather" as your mortal enemy reminds me of my own, "The Eternal Construction". It could be quiet (relative) and peaceful (relative) every single day I'm away from home or busy around it, but the moment I sit down to work, they bring the bloody jackhammers out for the rest of the day. Why can't the elements (or people) leave us be and let us create? Haha. Anyway, this painting is absolutely gorgeous! I love everything about it! The pose and expression really convey the sense of longing, as does, I feel, it being monochromatic. I love the spot you chose for it too, having her flanked by the trees, as well as the bed of roses idea, it just adds another layer of dynamism to the work that is just brilliant in my opinion. I could argue that having that sort of meta connection with her actual surroundings adds another layer of narrative to the story of the piece. Flowers, roses especially, but natural growth in general are often seen or portrayed as romantic devices, so having this girl lying in pensive wait for living growth, however long it would take, for a romantic and drastic change to her current environment, echoes a lot of peoples (youth especially) struggle with the tides of time, the wait and hope that life can improve in some truly meaningful way without letting go of all of the time you have... but that seems incredibly rambly of me, if it even made any sense from the start, haha. Beautiful work, and yet another win for you, Mr. Quick! Hopefully some day I'll be able to see it in person, while enjoying some of that pizza. :p
