You should use spray foam or mineral wool insulation around doors and windows. If not using thermal breaks around windows and doors. This stops the condensation from cold windows and doors into the wall. It's "best practice". Nice build. Those studs on front wall by door look cold. You can add extra insulation on outside and bend metal for faux column or beam to insulate it. Well worth cost over time. Or even get a post cut in half will help stop the thermal radiations from the mass of studs.

You have a beautiful home. The deck surround is incredible, gorgeous extra living space- this is one of my favorite designs. I have hardy board on my suburban 21 year old home and it’s an amazing product. We’ve never had to do a thing other than brush away occasional cobwebs in the eaves. The color is dead-on to the day we bought it. We live in north Texas where we literally bake in 100+ days for weeks at a time. The way you’ve installed it looks timeless. ❤️

It appears that your king studs were well built to support the wall and all of the glass framing such as window and doors, however I didn’t see any jack studs to support the various headers. Are you concerned about that or am I missing something? Hard to tell how you framed out that part from a video.
@devonloerop
@devonloerop Жыл бұрын
Hey! I acutally did forget jack studs but I'm not too worried because not only does the sheathing hold it in place but the double studs on each side easily hold it. Plus all of the loading is correctly placed since the header and king carries it down to floor

@Devon - I have watched 3 of the 5 videos so far, and still have this overwhelming question in my head. ?? How is this entire thing sitting on the threads (since the bottom of the bolt doesn't sit on the concrete if the nut is turned to raise the support at all) of 12 bolts? Is there some specification somewhere that says the weight of this cabin can sit on 12 vertical bolt threads? I've never built anything at this scale, but man, I'd love to know what told you that this was going to work out okay. Great job btw!
@devonloerop
@devonloerop Жыл бұрын
Grade 2 steel 3/4" bolts can hold 14k lbs and my home weighs 20k lbs total (conservative estimate after adding all lumber and everything). 20klbs / 12 bolts = 1600lbs per bolt. Even if the roof is loaded to our snow load max for where the home is built that 25lbs/sf of roof (additional 16k lbs) the total weight at an absolute max would be 36k lbs / which would be 3000lbs per bolt when split between the 12, which means the bolts have a safety factor of 4.66. Just the math I ran through, could be wildly wrong but I was just in the crawlspace wrapping up insulation and inspected all bolts and piers/ braces and it all looked perfect. Plus I even torqued up the deck anchors to reduce even more load from 12 under the home to the max load is actually less than I mentioned.
@jamiearmstrong3343
@jamiearmstrong3343 Жыл бұрын
@@devonloeropTotally appreciate the response. Maybe you can understand my perspective. Vertical installed bolts hold components by the threads, not by the bolts, unless the bolt is sitting on the supportive surface at the bottom. In your case, if you adjust your height, the bottom of the bolt lifts up inside the concrete sonitube and so it no longer sits on the concrete, and instead, the threads are holding the vertical pressure within the concrete. My concern was that you lost your vertical strength when you adjusted your bolts to lift up and not be touching the concrete on the bottom of the bolt. I may be completely wrong, and it sounds like you did your due diligence, I was just concerned that the 14k rating gets lowered when the bolt is no longer standing on the concrete to xfer the pressure down thru the bolt on to the concrete. Tks again for the response! Love the cabin!
