We have a overhang on our back deck. Paper wasps get up there every year and build a nest. Usually small nests of a dozen or two. They get between the bottom and top of the overhang. We have a natural paper wasp control mechanism. Every year a Texas Orb Weaver makes a web right underneath the entrance and that spider gets 1-3 wasps a day. It's a pretty cool show to watch.

I had a nest like that up in my attic. The big problem was I have a flat top roof so the space was extremely limited. Also, I had no bee suit and those nails coming down from the roof proved to be a sticking point. I did use a shop style vacuum cleaner where I joined multiple sections together so I could reach the nest which was about 15 feet away and HUGE and I didn’t want to get close to the nest as getting to it would require belly crawling and I didn’t want stung! My plan of attack was to spray it down with some wasp spray and suck it up. It all worked and I got that nest out at night when all the insects were in the nest and not out foraging. I didn’t get stung but stabbed myself on nail. I surely sympathize with the nest removal in this video.

Watched them clean themselves and fly off. Was pretty surprised that they didn't even attempt to sting me despite being so close and taking pictures. I still won't take my chances, as there was a massive influx of every kind of wasp found here. Stepped out of my car mid-summer and noticed there was a swarm at the back of my car. Noped into Tim Hortons and stayed until they dissipated. I savoured that coffee.
