A couple of quick questions.. 1. How often do you get stung on most jobs? Is it more or less or hardly ever. 2. Do you ever get nervous when going to each job Great video btw

I maybe get stung once every couple weeks. Seems like when I get stung it happens in 3s 😆 I don't get nervous, but like this job, the second I opened the wall I instantly knew I was going to get behind schedule, hence my "oh boy" remarks in the video 😆

Don't hornets usually split off and form new nests when they get too big, which is why insanely large nests like this don't typically happen? How did this happen? I'm genuinely asking, what makes hornets decide to split off and form new nests vs just keep expanding like this?
@BigJoe5.04 күн бұрын
I guess if they have enough room to keep building they just keep going.
@HornetKingOfficial4 күн бұрын
No. Colonies are started from one queen at the beginning of each spring and die by late fall. Honey bees split off from large colonies. So that's probably what you're thinking of.

Nests all die at the end of the season. All workers, males, and original queen die. A nest like this left to go full term, will release new queens into the other wall/ceiling/flooring spaces and as they warm the cabin over the winter/spring, they would start finding a ton of queens emerge into the living space.

The alarm pheromone triggers them to flood out of the nest. The swarming and attacking happens outside the nest at the marked threat. Inside a nest at that instance is a instant fury of activity, spastically moving around inside the nest as the guards and workers funnel to the entrance and out.
