Thank you so much for these videos! My 4 year old Boston pit was diagnosed 2 days ago with a 1cm MCT on her chest. She had surgery today and the vet took huge margins. They told me legally they can’t say if the prognosis is good or that they are hopeful until they get the biopsy back in 1-2 weeks. I’m in my 20’s and I’m terrified. Your videos have helped a lot to reassure me and give me hope! Thank you!!!

Nice video, u have already helped by making these videos... Unfortunately I didn't know about you and stelfonta when my dog first got cancer... she died before i found you online. You have to get all the other veterinarians on board with you and stelfonta, they need to know that you exist and that bringing their dog to you is an option and most likely the best choice.. this way, my dog didn't die for nothing.❤️🐾🐾❤️

My 7 year old Boston Terrier was just diagnosed with two Mast Cell tumors . One I did see, the other I did not see. The Vet actually found it. Thankfully they were low grade. She has had her surgery. Everything Dr Sue said in these two videos is exactly how my dog was treated for her tumors! I wish I found this before I had sleepless nights worrying about Honi!! She’s fine now.

I only have a canine oncologist, but every bump, no matter what is operated it is done by an Oncologist Surgeon. I was having benign bumps taken off, and like I always give massages the night before surgery, I did a massage. There was a fleck, less than a quarter the size of an m&m, I marked it, and the next morning when taking her into the canine oncologist, I mentioned it to the assistant of the surgeon. He was unsure because it was, just a fleck. Later we went to pick her up and everything was wonderful; except for the fleck of a mast cell cancer. They took it off with large margins, and they said they believed they got it all, but were sending a panel to Michigan State, to do the work up. Between the surgery and the panel coming back I watched every single video on mast cell I could get my hands on, I want to thank you for all of yours, we went into her oncologist meeting prepared. We asked the right questions, and I think she was impressed with our information. We lost our boxer many years ago to mast cell, that was not going to happen again. We were tricked into believing an ordinary vet told us to watch and wait, we did and we lost her. Her information told us she was rated a high, also she was to be given Palladia, thank God for that new drug! She is tolerating it excellently. If we have to have her on it for years, we will gladly pay for the drugs to do so. If a vet will not aspirate or is not knowledgeable with canine cancer, find a canine oncologist. I forgot to mention my baby Talisker the French Bulldog, who is precious to me, I pray everyday that people that can’t afford this to find a way, or look into Care Credit. Bless you Dr. Sue Cancer Vet, you kept us sane and prepared, to do what needed to be done. We are kicking cancer’s butt!

In general as long as your vet gives the OK and blood work and urine tests are ok I am ok with senior pets getting anesthesia but we must consider all the health conditions on an individual basis. Hi Dr. Sue, My sweet 10.5 year old Siberian Husky was just diagnosed with mast cell neoplasia. Upon veterinarian examination and scans, they found her lymph node at the top of her left rear leg was about the size of a baseball and her liver & spleen appeared swollen. They gave us a prescription on the day of the testing for Gabapentin which we gave to her that night. On Friday, we got the official diagnosis and a prescription for Prednisone. She was also so lethargic and weak that we decided to schedule to say goodbye to her this past Monday. On Sunday, I wanted to see how she was off of the Gabapentin because she had seemingly become worse since being on it. Sure enough, she was back to wagging her tail, asking to go for her walk and running to go outside. We went from mourning all weekend long to having everything mostly back to normal (she's was and still is picky about what she'll eat). My question is, where do we go from here? We have been looking into holistic supplements but wonder what else we could do for her (without spending a fortune taking her to multiple doctors/oncologists). Any advice or information you can provide would be so very appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Ok, now I'm MAD, my 9 year old dog had a mast cell tumor removed recently (no aspiration before) biopsy results said: mast cell tumor HIGH GRADE (little differentiation on Kiupel classification) and GRADE III on Patniak classification. Vet said to come back in 3 months to check on internal organs or any regrowth. He DID NOT gave my dog ANY CHEMO! If I'm understanding correctly according to this video, my dog had to have chemo after surgery and not this passive attitude of "wait and see". Now my doggy has new growth on her chest and near her armpit and also on the surgery incision. I'm sad and angry, I feel helpless that I was not informed of any of these. Thank you for such valuable information presented in this clear and concise manner. I just hope my beautiful dog will live despite all odd against her 😔 Sorry for bad english, it's my second language. I don't live in the U.S.

My dog had a huge mast cell tumor that grew in days! The vet aspirated and found cancer cells. They couldn’t remove the tumor due its size size so they suggested amputation. Her tumor was on her rear leg. I went to two vets for second opinions and all of them suggested amputation. Yesterday she had her surgery. It went well but im still in shock she had to be amputated but it grew so much in less than two weeks. It was oozing and basically looked so infected. I hope i made the right choice for her. The vet is sending her mass to pathology. Thanks for your informative videos.

Hi Dr. Sue, I hope this comment finds you and all you love well. We had a needle aspirant done while taking my pup to the vet after being attacked by hornets… I pointed out the lump because I had mentioned it to the other vet we use -twice over the past year- (I had a suspicion something was wrong because it grew in size and then shrunk), but was told it was nothing… it was never tested… anyways, this vet tested it and said there’s mast cells…😢… I have an appointment scheduled with an oncologist about 3 hours away (one that was recommended by his neurologist…Bodhi also has canine idiopathic epilepsy), but they cannot see us until 9/28 because they’re short staffed…we’re on the cancellation list. I just heard of another oncologist closer to us that I will call when they open tomorrow. His mass is about 2cm in size … it used to be white and is pink, red and purple. If we have gone this long without being treated… are the odds against us? Do you have experience with dogs with mast cells and epilepsy, and if so, how have they done with treatment? He is a 6 year old, 94lb. Mastiff - Australian Shepard mix. He is my world and I’m so scared. We just switched to a diet of boiled chicken, Dr. Harvey’s paradigm with supplements (krill and salmon oil, Mct oil, flaxseed oil, green tea, vitamin D, melatonin, vitamin E, bone broth, bisglycinate, magnesium, dandelion root). Thank you for your time, love and energy. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom with us.

Thank you for making these amazing and informative videos! My Beagle has a walnut sized lump on her vulva, and it was aspirated but the results were not definitive. We are going to get a biopsy done at an oncology clinic next week. I am concerned that the area is so sensitive that surgery would not be possible. My 25 lb cocker spaniel has a firm irregular lump beside her left caudle nipple. it's firm and it's become slightly bumpier since I put her on a urine acidifier to prevent UTIs. Aspiration yielded report of little tissue but intensely basophilic round cells. Some clumps had anisocytosis. My veterinarian doesn't know what to make of it.

I have a 10 year old possibly Australian Shepard/Shepard 50 pound mix.. Currently seeing a Unoversity oncologist. Getting mixed opinions to amputate or not amputate the leg. Tumor is too large and intwined with muscle and tendons so tumor alone can not be removed. Has spread already to 1 abdominal Lymph node and Lymph node behind her knee. Has had 5 rounds of vinblastine. No difference in leg tumor. Haven't had the second ct scan yet to determine if treatment has improved the Lymph node. Vets switched her to a new chemo drug Imatinib... I have been looking online.. That drug I have found conversations relating to Human Leukemia but no discussions tying Imatinib to Mast Cell..Any insight on this? Also...amputate or not to amputate the rear limb? Also she was given $2000 Blue Buffalo great for the chemo treatment.. Are you aware of any other grants?,Thanks so much. Love watching ❤👍

Thank you for this video. My golden retriever had a high grade mast cell tumor removed from below but close to his eye. As you can imagine it was difficult to insure a clear deep margin. What options do I have for further treatment, I would think they wouldn’t be able to do radiation with it being so close to his eye.

Hi Dr. Sue! My Pitty/Lab mix was diagnosed with Low Grade 2 MCT this summer- lateral margins were great the deep margin was clean by only 1mm so my oncologist recommended another revision surgery which he had. (Negative abdominal ultrasound /negative blood work & negative chest X-ray) We are almost 5 months post op and I check his body every day for new lumps and bumps and so far we have been very lucky! I have read many things about diet.. and was hoping you can give me your opinion on what you think about food for dogs with MCT. I currently give him a mix of merrick chicken dry food with tru dog raw topper for breakfast and Dr. Harveys paradigm for dinner. Any input appreciated, thank you!

One thing that is confusing. If it’s high grade mast cell 2 so aggressive but the Tumor was only pea size and was removed with good margins. Then where is the cancer that needs chemo? If the cancer originated in that location on the skin. Where does it come back and how does it spread? My dog has grade 2 aggressive, pea size Tumor removed with good margins. Going for further tests of abdomen and lymph. If they are clear can it come back still? And if it isn’t clear how did the cancer get there if margins where good? Thank you

@Dr.Sue my dog has a huge mass on her face,it is in the middle of her forehead.Her eye is black and she can't see out of it,and now she is starting nose bleeds.she is full of life barking, eating, running it is just that mass is in the way and it is cancerous. What can I give her food wise and care wise. The vets don't want to touch it because they say it's too deep. I don't want to put her down because she really doesn't show signs of pain,she eats and walks her regular walks and runs. What can I do to help her should I let them drain it?

Thank you for this video, it has really helped me understand. You talk about dirty margins and clean margins but do you have any information/videos for clean margins but only mm rather than cm? Also our 3 year old dog was diagnosed with grade 2 MCT (lower grade) but then the pathologist found 9.87% ki-67. Do you have any information on this because you say these tumours are treatable but our vet has given our beagle A poor prognosis? Thanks again, you explained MCT so well, our vets just talk scientifically which I can’t understand x

Great video! Our 7 yo male englishbulldog had surgery on his paw 4 weeks ago to cut out a cancerous growth. The margins were not excised right as our poor boy is now covered in hard little masses all over his body. We counted 67 lumps and there seems to be more popping up as I write this. Some are the size of peas and others are the size of golf balls. Any suggestions on how to keep him comfortable? Gaba? Prednisone? Emtec? Going to see our vet to arrange euthanasia when it gets to difficult for him. This has been one of the hardest things to deal with as I love my dog very much. Thx again for the video. It helped. Our Vet said their Mast Cell Tumors. hes on pred, lots of benadryl & gaba for pain. he has less than 2 weeks and I'm utterly crushed! For anyone who's dog gets Mast cell tumors its imperative that you give them a large dose of antihistamine to prevent scratching as scratching the itch causes release of more tumor cells, which cause more lumps to grow. Majorly bummed! don't take your best furriends for granted, you can get caught up in this crazy world. love your pets.

Hi Doctor, I’ve seen two separate vets who are concerned about two growths on my 7 year Chihuahua. Their concerns are possible MCT. Both have suggested removal. They have advised the fine needle test on these growth will likely come back as inconclusive because both growths are too small for obtain enough cells to test. Both growths measured < 1 cm. Would you still recommend prior testing or consider they’re so small continue with removal and testing the removed growths then?

My dog has surgery scheduled next month for mass cell tumor removal. Is it worth getting if I can't afford chemotherapy? The vet says there's a 50% of it being cancer,if it is cancer, surgery could cause it to spread faster. Shoud I cancel the operation? I really don't know.

Should core vaccines be given to dogs with a history of mast cell tumors? My 10-year-old dog is due for the 3-year rabies vaccine (she's 5-months cancer-free). Integrative vet says do not give it to her EVER again. Primary care vet/oncologist says give the vaccine; titers aren't effective for rabies. (We're in Massachusetts.)
@DrSueCancerVet
@DrSueCancerVet 5 жыл бұрын
I take it case but case but I do recommend in general vaccinating for thing like Rabies especially when there is a risk in your area. So that often means having a conversation with you vet and and oncologist - which it sounds like you are :) I live and practice in an area where Rabies is in the wild life and there is risk so I would recommend vaccinating for that. I may delay during chemo depending on the cancer and protocol. Hope that helps!

@@DrSueCancerVet This is a super interesting topic. My dog got core vaccines (excluding rabies) the end of October and within a couple weeks, a 2 cm MCT appeared. (No previous history.) I had the thought that maybe the vaccines triggered it but dismissed it. From the research, I know we don't know what causes these but it sounds like you have some reservations where it's not critical to do the vaccines?

Yes I mention that in the video as one on the main chemo drugs I use, but refer to it as its other name Lomustine. In addition to the standard chemo side effects (GI, low white blood cells, and hair issues in some breeds) it can cause live toxicity and platelet side effects. Please discuss the pros and cons for your dog's MCT with your oncologist/vet. It can be a good option but it depends on the case and I often use a protocol with vinblastine and prednsione too. Here is a good video on chemo side effects. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2PQpWWlesyMjtU . Also the home safety one is helpful if you decide to give chemo. Thanks for watching!

My dog Thor, (9 year old American Bulldog) was just diagnosed with a mast cell tumor on his abdomen. My vet is recommending a surgeon because of the location (it’s a few inches in front of his penis). However, the last few days I’m beginning to feel another lump develop quickly on his right rib cage. In your 1st video you say that most dogs will develop another tumor fairly quickly. I am very concerned about this and I’m a bit worried as I obviously want my dog to be happy and healthy but I don’t have pet insurance and will paying out of pocket. About what is the cost of the removal procedure as I will have to work this cost into my budget? Thank you for your informative videos!

HI. To clarify I said 10-20% of dogs with develop a 2nd MCT at SOME point. It could be weeks but it could be years or never. :) It should be aspirated to confirm what it is before surgery. I cannot give estimates for removal as it depends on many things including where it is on your dog, where you live (cost of living), how big a surgery it is. Please discuss directly with your vet or a cancer specialist. I am happy my videos are providing some helpful info but you definitely need to get more from someone in person. MCT are treatable!! xo Good luck! #kickcancersbutt
