I use the Ms 6818 alot on garden buildings where cables are often nailed.. It works superbly.. Wouldn't be without it.

as i understand code is for multiple transmitter use. you can select each different code to see wich transmiter signal you receive. at least at noyafa it is so..

Would this work with a lighting circuit fault I have, my old manager thinks the cable has a break underground. I can turn the circuit off and attach this device but not sure if it will work. Also as it's a car park there is only grass (ground) nearish to the cable.

Possibly. If a wire has a break and the ends have been pulled apart then yes you could detect where the wire ends. However if its just an insulation fault where the cable continues to stay connected then you wouldnt be able to tell.

If there is a break in the cable, you can follow the cable path until the signal suddenly stops at the break. Connect the transmitter to the opposite end and follow the cable path backward, and around the same location the signal should stop being detected. This will confirm the same location as the break in the cable. Otherwise you can buy a TDR unit for several thousand dollars. They send a signal down the cable, and if the cable is broken, the signal will reflect back to the transmitter. It will time how long it takes for the reflection to come back and that tells you the distance to the break. You still need a machine like this to work out the route of the cable as without knowing the exact route, you wont be able to measure out the distance and know where to dig.

It's a cable locator not a fault locator but you can find faults where the signal drops off dramatically

You can use two transmitters, one at each end, on different codes. When the receiver suddenly detects the other code, it means that there is a break.

The reciever can only detect one channel at a time. You would have to stop and select the other channel to begin detecting before you reach the break.
