The only reason they did this format for MD is because if they didnt impose a uniqueness clause for the decks the entire tournament was going to get steamrolled by maxx c and tearlament ...they did it just to make the game look less trash

I love 3v3 formats with shared cardpools. I love when MTG does it too. It makes teams actually have to really think about deck building. Is it better to play 1 max c in 3 decks or put all 3 in one persons deck? Who knows. Only issue i have is the freebie slots for this event that let them each play 3 of staples in every deck.

Same though I think the shared pool should have some extras, idk what rules they went with for this though. I assume they only allowed up to the number that's normally allowed in any one deck, which isn't what I'd like to see; I'd prefer that the card pool increases by half the number of total decks, so, like, for 6 decks, you get +3 of each card, so 4 of any limited card, 5 of any semi-limited, and 6 of any limited to work with, and of course each deck still has to abide by the F&L list on its own. This gives flex room and allows you to play two decks that really need the same staples, which actually increases deck diversity opportunities because it wouldn't mean you could only play one deck that (using the example of Extrav from the video and also accounting for Prospy) doesn't care about its ED at all and one that only kind of cares, you could play up to 2 of each of those kinds of strats. Of course to supplement this approach you need to have a rule that says no decks are allowed to have more than some number of cards in common with each other, so that you don't just play two extremely similar decks (so like, you can't play two Tear Ishizu lists, but you could perhaps play Tear Ishizu and Tear Lunalight.) It trades off some of the restriction-born creativity in the deck building process for matches that have decks closer to high power as well as more opportunities for anti-meta, rather than just tier 3, decks to show up. (For example, Flunder, even though I dislike that deck, would have been a good anti-meta pick that can play well against Spright trying to Iblee lock you or Tear trying to Winda lock you, but they couldn't play it because it needed staples they had to use elsewhere.)

I didn't even realize that MD just had a world champ series. That gives you an idea of how bad Konami is in advertising it.

It was really only advertised in-game and on their twitter accounts. I think they were relying on content creators to talk about it more, but for most people it was kind of a "put one video up about it and move on" kind of ordeal because the qualifiers were a slog and there was a lot about how the top cut was gonna work that was in the twilight zone of "clear enough that a spectator won't need to have much explained to them, but unclear enough that the actual duelists don't know what it's going to be like on a nuts and bolts level" so it was hard to even talk much about it because you won't add a lot of value for your audience by giving your take or speculating on it, it's only worth talking about after the fact once we saw it all play out.
