Interesting and timely as I'm in full gelli plate experiment mode. The paper and image you print from is important, as you said must be laser, although I have seen someone do an inkjet transfer with a shiny paper (I'll report back on this when I've tested it). The magazine image needs to be on a glossy paper, most of the Matte paper magazine images don't work. The higher quality magazines, the better, and high contrast is important. Without that there isn't anything to resist.

The high end magazines have great ink for transfers.

have never ONCE gotten an image to transfer to the plate! I tried again today after watching this video and thinking maybe I'd gone too thick with the paint. I got a small part of the clothing to transfer, that's all. I've probably tried over 20 times, using different paint brands, images/words from magazines, books, and xerox machines. Nada, zilch. I really want to be able to teach this to my high schoolers but I feel cursed!

I found another video where the woman used a gloss spray varnish on the print, and then let it dry before trying to transfer it. I hadn't had any luck with my images before that but now they're working! The spray is the key!

@@whixie do you have a link to that video?

Better to let it dry naturally than speed dry with a hair dryer

The main issue is the paper wastage in experimentation. I'm working on a better method.
