Reasons why the fart joke is funny: 1: Only thing in this movie that actually feels like a joke 2: The villain's dramatic scenes being ruined 3: Only non-offensive joke attempt

Fun fact: the "turtle club" scene was being filmed on the 11th September 2001, which led to Dana Carvey having to venture a moment's silence in consideration of the tragedy unfolding that day. Whilst wearing that costume.

I found it funny at 11. Even had the DVD. But I was a late bloomer when it came to taste. Honestly, I think the premise is fine for a fantasy comedy. It just needs a remake that throws out just about everything OTHER than the premise.

When Brent Spiner came to Ottawa Comic Con this past year, I really really _really_ wanted to bring in a DVD copy of this to get him to sign. Just to either hear his thoughts on it, see a disgusted look...I dunno. But then I remembered he'd have that look/feeling pretty much all day from the Trek fans, so I brought in Out To Sea instead. He's said in interviews it was his favourite project he's ever worked on (and said the same to me when I slid my DVD copy of it across the table to him). Totally worth it. 10-15 minutes of him reminiscing about working with Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon was so much more satisfying than irking him.

I did the same thing with Warwick Davis. He was doing a con and everyone was bringing him Star Wars, Harry Potter or Willow. I turned up with Skinned Deep, the weird horror movie where he threw plates. I think sometimes they just like to have that change from the usual stuff they get!

When he was talking about the "fart joke" it reminded me of when I took the theatre in high school, thy actually taught us that a running joke in any play or movie is funny the first time, eye rolling the second, and hilarious the third time. If it's done right that is. Pretty interesting

After the third instance (this is my second time watching the review), I stopped to think about it. I don't believe it's the fact that it happens three times (at that point), I think it's the fact that the comedic timing is spot on the first and third time and bad the second, fourth and last times (where it's really predictable and seems forced). ...did I really say a fart joke seemed forced? Oh dear.

Well, its okay to add bloopers and stuff in the credits, even to draw out the credits. The issue is when you stop the credit roll to add basically another scene. I like how we just breeze past the fact that our protagonist bites a man's nose clean off, spits it back onto his face where it magically reattaches, and the party mostly continues as if nothing happened. All while a mentally deranged man in a turtle costume walks around escorted by a woman who should be in a much better movie. I know I shouldn't expect logic, but goddamn.

For what it's worth, my analysis of the fart joke: 1st time: (Generally speaking) pretty unexpected 2nd time: Basically an exact repeat of the first time: you're expecting it, the surprise is totally lost 3rd time: You expect another repeat, then he stops laughing and you think they just forgot about putting it in or something. Then he starts talking and farts, creating a delayed gratification, aka "TIMING!", aka subversion of expectations, aka humor 4th time: He'd already farted several times in the seconds leading up to the joke, killing any suspense. Also the actor played it up too much 5th time: So much expectation has been built up (by that joke being the villain's only character trait) that's it's impossible for it to be funny anymore. And again, the Carvey and the others play it up too much. "Look! He farted! Just like all the other times! Isn't that such a great and clever joke we did for the entirety of the movie?" It would have been better if they paused for a second and somebody said, "Yep, he's dead" or something to that effect. I love doing analysis stuff like this :)

I have one and only one defense for this movie and that's that when I was a kid with Asperger's and didn't know it, I had a terrible habit/coping mechanism of starting to imitate the people around me. This movie was when I saw someone afflicted in the same way, and it became his superpower. So I saw that if I got control of it, I could become an impressionist and even become funny and endearing to people. Representation matters, I guess?

To be fair about Dana Carvey, at the time of this movie, he had been out of the spotlight for awhile because of botched heart surgery that resulted in him filing a lawsuit against the hospital that operated on him which he ended up winning. And also, if The Dana Carvey Show flopped, it wasn't because of a lack of talent considering that the writers and performers on his show included Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Robert Smigel, Louis CK, Spike Ferensten, Charlie Kaufman, and Dino Stamatopulous. That being said, there is no question that Critic is completely right about this movie. My impression of Carvey is that his humor was too broad and over-the-top to sustain a successful movie career and he worked best as a co-star or co-lead like in Wayne's World or with somebody to counterbalance him. Here, there's no counterbalance. He's so broad with that annoying accent and over-the-top with those disguises (Indian blackface and Latin brownface was funny to you? Really?). Mouth open is still funny, hee hee!

It's sad that this movie was so terrible because I feel like Dana Carvey is a very talented comedic actor when put in the right role. The thing is he's not the type who can carry a movie on his own. He works better when paired up with someone a bit more grounded to contrast his over-the-top style. For example, Dana played Garth in the movie Wayne's World. While both Wayne and Garth were pretty ridiculous characters, Wayne was the more relateable of the two, and Garth was more of a caricature played solely for laughs. This allowed for the two to play off of each other, explore really absurd comedic avenues, and still feel grounded

Jonathan Rodd profound words dude and I agree with every word. It works well when Dana teams up with someone who plays the straight man

Agreed! When I was a kid, this was actually one of my personal favorite movies! I still remember back when I was in elementary school, during recess my friends and I would do the Energico mantra while chanting "Become Another Person", and we'd imitate the characters from the movie like the Turtle Guy and Mr. Peru (who was probably my favorite character in the movie), and we'd also pretend to do the slapping martial art while saying "Who's Your Daddy?" XD We had a lot of fun! When I first showed my friends the movie, they seemed to enjoy it as much as I did! Now that I'm done with that nostalgic ramble, looking back at this movie, obviously it's far from a masterpiece (although just about everyone would say that about any bad movie they enjoyed as a kid, once they're older and their minds have become far more developed since then), but for me it still has its moments, and I feel like it's still worth a watch today.

This is, without a doubt, one of the worst movies i've ever seen. But when he said that it got a 1% on Rotten Tomatoes, i HAD to go check it out for myself. He wasn't lying. The Tomatometer gave it a 1% out of 100. This movie belongs in my Top Ten Worst Movies i have ever seen: Frozen, Eragon, Frozen, Master of Disguise, Frozen, Home Alone 4, Frozen, Frozen, every Fast and Furious movie, Frozen.
