Agreed, although laughably easy even on Impossible difficulty. Though I have fun on Impossible, because even though the AI is a twitchy schizophrenic moron, he out produces and out researches me for most of the game. Once I have a planet that can churn out a Titan every two turns, then it just turns into a couple major fleet engagements and mop up. (Unless I win a council victory or an Antaran Victory.) Stellar converters aren't necessary, but who DOESN'T want the power to destroy a planet?

My take on the game: Before launching the game for the first time (I didn't hear much about it up until that time), I was skeptical of its atmosphere, because I thought many such space games have something of a rock soundtrack. And then when I launched it, I was greeted by the main menu, and heard the Theme 3. This is when I almost immediately fell in love with the game, and knew I will love it :) Soundtrack is a really huge part of this game!

Looking up Laura's biography it seems this was her first and last game. Its a shame though, because the music really set the underlying tone of each race. Each felt alien but can be interpreted as being aligned with the fundamental philosophy of each race (though it is open to interpretation of course). Bulrathi theme definitely feels rough and tough. Meklar theme feels robotic and cybernetic. Elerian theme feels warlike Mrrshan feels like a lion on a hunt in the savannah at night. She got it right on the money. To be honest, their isn't a track I do not like in all this. My biggest sadness is that she did not go on to make soundtracks for other sci-fi games.
@unknownkingdom3 жыл бұрын
It looks like she did three games in the early/mid nineties but MOO2 was the only big hit. Another was some WW2 flight simulator, Wings of Glroy. Not much of it on KZbin but people do compliment the soundtrack in the comments. She is definitely a talented composer. She has a page on SoundCloud (i think. Been a while since I looked). No music on it but mentions she is working a normal job these days. I think as an EMT or a medical claims processor or something.

Windows version was never stable, and crashed when bigger fleets were used. And i mean the original one with windows 95/98 in the 90ies and old hardware. Just do it guys, play the dosbox version that you can download for free and patch 1.50. you will be surprised how good looking and smooth the game runs on a modern system without the patch, the sound was not working any good and the game was less smooth to look at. Still more addictive to turn the next turn button than most modern 4X TBS i played Civ5/6 included and the glorified Stellaris, GC and Distand World and all the MoO sequels games have no tactical combat which is the best part of the game.
