I had no idea what I was doing when I played this as a kid, but man, did I love the soundtrack.

I was like you. Unfortunately my friend DID know what he was doing. But fortunately, i also loved the soundtrack and the "ambiance of the gestalt". And of course, so did my friend. This game left me with the most saudade/sehnsucht.

This is one soundtrack that you could listen to for long periods of time without feeling irritated, and I suspect that this is what the composers had in mind. Just. One. More. Turn.

Well it's a repeating soundtrack for a turn based game, yes, that's what the composer had in mind and apparently he succeeded.

To this day nobody managed a proper remake of this game for modern systems. Many have tried and broke their teeth trying to get it done. Does not matter if it's indy or AAA (ie: WarGaming) All they have to do is clean the music, and reprogram it with an easy-modding option (changing science/racial pick costs and slight other things, ironically a few text files would be good enough. Saving ship designs (and not be allowed to load them when missing tech) would be a great time saver in MP as well. But nope... Oh well, at least I have good memories of playing this with my 4 RL friend in Lan-parties quite a few times. Playing with human adversaries makes for far more interesting dynamics and diplomacy. Also: Trillarian theme... my base race pick for my Aquatic/Subterranean/creative race. Just love the looks of them and their song

Well, there is a newer MOO game, confusingly titled "Master of Orion" that is ... mostly faithful to it- but definitely an imperfect copy. I personally feel like the game "Stellaris" comes pretty close to scratching the same itch of Moo2, although it is certainly fairly different. Stellaris has a lot of things that Moo2 didn't obviously being a much newer game, and being that it's not turn based. But some of the major things that I liked about Moo2 are contained in Stellaris, such as ship building, complex diplomacy, a lot of the similar mechanics with colonizing planets and colony management, race customization which has a massive impact on gameplay. Overall, Stellaris adds a lot of things that have to be learned.. it's overall more complex. But it's still supported by it's devs and continues to evolve.. plus, it actually can be played multiplayer- I didn't really feel like moo2 was ever realistically multiplayer, as truly turn based games are painful to play with other humans. It does seem like there is a need for a Moo2-like-game though.. It seems like people are still trying to get there, but also.. you can just play the original moo2. I have gone back and played it here and there.. but I think once you figure it out, you can just crush the computers.. so although I love it, and wish there was a multiplayer version that was actually playable, just crushing the computers can only hold my attention so long.

I’ve been playing this for literally ages. Picked it up in 2005. It’s on Steam for $6 currently. So I hear this every morning while I have my coffee.

It's a shame that the only audio source we have is the game data. Would've liked to get our hands on the master recordings. The noise in the originals always bothered me so much. These sound way better but you can still hear the filter removing some crispness.

Could remove the rest of the remaining noise with slightly more aggressive filter usage but decided to play safe

I have a board game night of Eclipse: Dawn of the Galaxy planned tonight and immediately thought of Master of Orion II OST to play in the background. I remember I barely understood English back when this game came out (not English native speaker) and I just learned the game through trial and error not knowing 95% of the words. It was a fun journey starting from Novice/Advanced difficulty up to Impossible/Pre-warp.

I've played an "Eclipse" type space board game....is that the regional name for it? In the US I believe it's just called Eclipse, but I've played that numerous times as well ....after searching that IS its subtitle, yep great game...my personal fav 4X space game is Twilight Imperium, specifically 3rd and 4th editions, I literally had this soundtrack in the queue for our most recent 4th ed session along with occasional Galactic Civilizations 2 music, Mass Effect, and other space related franchises

Hi everyone, my name is Alex and I am from Venice. I played Master of Orion and used the soundtrack to look at the M32 Galaxy secret close ups, it's really awesome if you zoom into Galaxies with the Master of Orion Soundtrack. The M32 Close Ups are gone, look at a Map of the Galaxies. Regards, Alex.

Good point about that track missing. Looks like I sadly omitted it despite having extracted it from the game data. I gave it a go, but I don't recall the exact settings I used for the process and wasn't satisfied with the quality. It's a nice track, but only a 19 second loop so I'm probably not going to redo the whole upload just for that.
