There's never been a better volleyer than Edberg, and with how the game is played today there never will be!

Right? I miss a great serve & volley player. They need to take some pace off of the ball.

@@fishbone3333Pace off the ball? Courts are slow that is why everyone stays behind baseline. They need to make it faster.

@radiohead2206 he's talking about the ball, you're talking about the courts😅 Way more power off the racket from groundstrokes nowadays, but to balance it, courts are slower. Try to touch volley when Nadal/Alcaraz/Sinner are blasting the ball from the baseline with huge ball speed and topspin combined... not happening...

Missing S&V tennis. Tennis was more fun to watch when you had contrasting styles. Now everyone plays the same game and it’s who ever has the most shot tolerance

Pure elegance! Watching Edberg in those three Wimbledon finals on television at a remote Indian village as a schoolkid remains one of my most cherished childhood memories.

Elegant yes. Some would argue if he was the best volleyer. Maybe Johnny.

Takes a lot more skill to be a s&v player than sitting back at the baseline murdering the ball.

McEnroe may have been the better overall player but I can’t decide who was the better volleyer
@z1az28520 күн бұрын
edberg had a beautiful game and was more than just a pure serve volleyer. his movement was exceptional, he had phenomenal passing shots on both wings and great returns, plus was good at utilizing pace. But his game wrequired tremendous precision and speed and unfortunately when he lost a step he was overpowered by the big hitters in the 90s. rafter was similar to him, but had a tad more power in his shots.

It's not about he would be serve and volley against the players you mention. It's about adapting the game, something that makes players legends. Edberg is a legend. He would have adapted to any generation. His successes have been achieved across seasons, surfaces and multiple generation of opponents. Winning 800+ singles matches is no mean feat.
